WWE SmackDown saw a decrease in viewership on December 20.
According to Wrestlenomics via Programming Insider, SmackDown averaged 1.326 million viewers on Friday. The show drew a 0.37 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic. The viewership is down from last week’s episode when an average of 1.530 million viewers tuned in. The demo is also down from last week‘s episode (0.47 rating in the same demographic).
SmackDown ranked #3 in the key demographic on cable on Friday. The show was up against the College Football Playoff Game between Notre Dame and Indiana on ESPN, which averaged 5.582 million viewers and a 1.65 rating in the key demographic. The game also aired on ABC and ESPN 2 and averaged a combined 13.387 million viewers.
What happened on WWE SmackDown this week?
This week’s show kicked off with a promo from the New Bloodline. They are interrupted by Drew McIntyre who proposes a temporary alliance to take out the OG Bloodline. Jimmy Uso attacks McIntyre with his crutch.
This led right into a six-man tag which saw the New Bloodline defeat LA Knight, Andrade, and Apollo Crews.
Elsewhere on the show, Johnny Gargano defeated Alex Shelley in singles action thanks to an assist from Tommaso Ciampa.
In the main event of the evening, Bianca Belair and Naomi defeated Nia Jax and Candice LeRae to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.
