Mercedes Moné is still riding a high from her match with Hazuki in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
In the latest issue of the MonéMag, Mercedes Moné wrote about her recent match against Hazuki at Strong Style Evolved. Moné reflected on the match and what main eventing this show meant to her.
“What an incredible whirlwind of a week it has been for me in the world of professional wrestling. Let me take you on the journey, starting with the electrifying NJPW Strong Style Evolved PPV,” Mercedes Moné wrote. “There, I had the honor of putting my NJPW Strong Women’s Championship on the line against none other than the phenomenal Stardom superstar, Hazuki.
“When the bell rang, Hazuki and I went to war. We exchanged blows that echoed throughout the arena; her forearms and slaps were fierce, and she gave me everything she had. It was a battle of wills, a clash of titans, and I felt every strike. But in that moment of chaos, I remembered who I was and what I had come to achieve. I strategized, I adapted, and I ultimately outsmarted her. That’s when I seized the opportunity to hit the Moné Maker, sealing my victory.
“This match was more than just a title defense; it was a testament to resilience, strength, and the unbreakable spirit that defines me as Mercedes Moné. I’m here to remind the world why I’m the greatest at what I do.
Mercedes Moné was overwhelmed with emotions heading into the match with Hazuki
“As I prepared for this match, I found myself overwhelmed with emotions, especially returning to a venue that had once been a pivotal point in my career—a place that almost saw the end of my journey in wrestling. I knew I needed to clear my mind and shake off any lingering negativity, so I took the time to meditate and pray. But as I arrived at the arena, the floodgates opened; I was hit with tears and nausea I was so sick. To top it all off, I had just started my period, and it happened to be a full moon. Talk about a perfect storm of emotions!
“Despite feeling physically unwell and battling through an emotional rollercoaster, I refused to let anything hold me back. I was determined to give my all, and I entered that ring ready to put on a show, pouring every ounce of my spirit into a nearly 30-minute main event. And let me tell you, as I stood backstage before my music hit, a smile crept across my face—I was the main event! This was my moment.”
