Drew McIntyre On AEW: I’m Happy To See So Many Friends Making A Full-Time Living

Drew McIntyre is glad AEW has been such a success, as it allows other wrestlers to work full-time in the industry.

The former WWE Champion was released by the WWE in 2014. With AEW still five years away, McIntyre worked in the UK with promotions like ICW and WCPW before returning to the United States with TNA.

He eventually returned to the WWE to become a multi-time world champion, but Drew McIntyre is still thrilled that Tony Khan made a new promotion to help grow the industry in the way that it did.

Drew McIntyre recently spoke on TikTok live (via WrestleOps) and was asked his thoughts on AEW. The Scot diplomatically answered the question, not directly naming AEW but saying that he was happy that the industry has grown in the way it has, including AEW, TNA and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

“I’m happy to watch all wrestling, especially when I’m off.” Drew McIntyre said. “When I was out that three months, when one person called me the entire time I was out, that’s the time for me to catch up on everything. IMPACT, AEW, New Japan, the independents. I’m happy to see so many people I’m friends with making a full-time living.”

“That wasn’t the case when I was fired in 2014 and reinvented what it meant to be a professional wrestler, using social media as I still do to this day at the top level. It’s been going since 2014. To rebrand myself, to see how much the industry grew in those three years, and it led to so many places and so many people making a full-time living. It’s awesome.” Drew McIntyre added.

Drew McIntyre Walks Out On Interview: I Don’t Give A F**k About The Internet’s Opinion

Drew McIntyre is done caring what you think about him.

WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre was a guest at the Busted Open Holiday Party. When asked how it felt to win the “Bustie Award” for best talker, McIntyre said it basically came down to him just starting to speak his truth and not caring what other people thought.

“I just started telling my truth. I started feeling like I don’t care what anybody thinks,” Drew McIntyre said. “I’m going to stop being the role, even what the company wants me to be. Or what the fans expect me to be, I’m going to speak my truth, and if people like it cool. If they don’t, I honestly don’t care at this point.

“What’s the worst thing you can do, fine me? Fire me? I don’t care at this point. I’m gonna be my authentic self. I see others following suit, and that’s cool. It’s good for them, which means I’ve just got to up the ante. I want to see all of our superstars stepping up. A few of them are following in my footsteps, and I’m happy to see that. I just got a lot on my mind, I’m conflicted at the moment.”
