After seeing Cody Rhodes team with their long-time enemy Roman Reigns at WWE Bad Blood, Kevin Owens attacked Rhodes both physically and verbally in the following weeks.
During a recent interview, WWE broadcaster Michael Cole pointed out that another of Owens’ friends, Sami Zayn, had also teamed with Reigns this year, to which Owens responded that he’d “cross that bridge” with Zayn whenever he got around to it.
While appearing on In The Kliq, Zayn acknowledged Owens’ comment, noting that he hasn’t really thought about it, as he’s been preoccupied with what’s been happening on WWE Raw.
“I don’t really know what to say there because it’s one of the rare times where Kevin and I kind of went our separate ways,” Zayn said. “Nothing really terrible happened. I just stayed on Raw and he went to SmackDown. We were tag team champions, we lost the titles, we went separate ways, nobody turned on the other. No hurt feelings as far as I know. I don’t know what he’s thinking; I don’t really have time to stop and think about what he’s thinking. I see some of his actions. Do I agree with all of them? No. I understand most of them. I don’t necessarily agree with all of it.”
“But here’s the thing,” Zayn continued, “I think the way it affects Kevin to see, let’s say Cody teaming with Roman, I don’t know if it affects him the same way when he sees me teaming with Roman. I don’t know that. Maybe it’s worse, maybe it’s better, but those are two very different relationships.”
While Zayn isn’t completely sure how Owens feels about him teaming with Roman Reigns, he believes it likely hits him “a little different” as their friendship extends back 20 years. Meanwhile, Owens and Rhodes, didn’t form a friendship, on-screen at least, until recent years.
“I don’t really care to speculate right now because I’ve just got too much on my plate between Bloodline business, Drew McIntyre, Seth and CM Punk, all this going on Raw,” Zayn added. “It’s just trying to keep your head in the game. Much like Kevin, I suppose when we cross paths, we’ll have to deal with it when we get there. I don’t really know that I did anything to him, so we’ll just have to see how it goes.”
