Oba Femi Highlights One Aspect That Fans Overlook About His Match With Trick Williams

Oba Femi assesses his upcoming title match against Trick Williams.

After retaining his NXT Championship, albeit controversially, on this week’s episode of NXT, Trick Williams now looks ahead to NXT New Year’s Evil. There, Williams will defend his title against Oba Femi, who says their match will be a battle of the pro wrestler versus the sports entertainer.

“You have to think about what this match means,” Femi told The Ringer Wrestling Show. “This answers the question like who is the top guy? Is it the pro wrestler or the sports entertainer? People are overlooking that aspect of it. It’s like who represents the brand dictates what direction the company is going to go. So do we stay grounded with the professional wrestler or do we for lack of a better term, squander it with the sports entertainer?”

According to Femi, he could better push the legitimacy of wrestling as a sport, whereas Williams, the “flashy” sports entertainer, “kills” that legitimacy.

“I know people are trying to make a name for themselves and become superstars, but I feel like sometimes when we push that way, we kill what it actually is,” Femi said, “so that’s what this match means.”

The NXT Championship match between Williams and Femi comes after the former won the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge, thus solidifying himself a world title shot. NXT New Year’s Evil will mark the first-ever faceoff between Femi and Williams. It will also mark the latter’s fourth televised title defense during his second reign.
