NXT Title Match On WWE NXT Ends Without Clear Winner

Trick Williams defended the NXT Championship on the December 17 episode of WWE NXT, but the match ended without a clear winner.

In the main event of the December 17 episode of WWE NXT, Williams put his title on the line against Eddy Thorpe. Thorpe previously somewhat conned his way into getting a title shot by staging a backstage attack that took him out of the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline.

Thorpe and Williams battled it out on the December 17 episode of WWE NXT. In the closing minutes, the referee got knocked down, and Thorpe scored a visual pin. A second referee came to the ring as Williams then hit him with the Trick Shot. He fell on Thorpe, and the referee counted the pin. However, Williams’ shoulders were down, so the pinfall was unclear.

The two officials argued and spoke with NXT General Manager Ava as the show came to an end. The broadcast team also questioned which competitor held the title.

Update: WWE then posted footage from what happened after the show. Ava declared that Trick Williams was the winner and the champion. Thorpe got in her face and went on to shove Shawn Michaels.

Trick Williams is currently set to defend the NXT Championship against Oba Femi at NXT New Year’s Evil. Femi earned a title shot by winning the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
