Tony Khan discusses bringing Matt Cardona in for ROH Final Battle and comments on his future with the company.
During the ROH Final Battle media call, Tony Khan was asked about the match between Chris Jericho and Matt Cardona at the pay-per-view.
“It’s a huge double main event. We’ve talked a lot about the other world title match, and I think that’s a huge match. This world title match is also a huge match, and it’s a very different circumstance. I think with Chris Jericho versus Matt Cardona, that’s a very interesting thing. Matt Cardona is somebody I really like, and I thought would be great to bring back now because I want to work with Matt more. He was fantastic for us in AEW earlier this year, wrestling in the Cope Open, when Adam Copeland was defending the TNT Title. I thought Matt Cardona was fantastic in the Cope Open. He had a great match, great reaction, and I said I really want to work with Matt again. It’s been a long time, it’s been years since we’ve done anything with Matt.
Tony Khan Praises Matt Cardona
Khan then spoke highly of Matt Cardona and said that he had experience as a TV wrestler. He went on to say that he was interested in working with Cardona more going forward. Khan stated that of Cardona won, fans could expect to see more of him.
“Matt’s a top independent wrestler, and he’s a real New York guy. To go into New York, I thought he would be a great person to come into Ring of Honor and somebody that we could work with. Matt is very established, he’s a great wrestler, and with ROH’s presence on digital and potentially on television, Matt’s somebody that is very experienced promoting lots of wrestling matches digitally and does a great job at that, and also somebody that’s a very good TV wrestler. That’s why I brought Matt in here.
“I think Matt is somebody that could be a great champion for any company, including AEW or ROH. I think Matt could be and can be a great world champion for ROH going forward. I am very interested in working with Matt more going forward. If Matt wins the title, then you can expect to see Matt here a lot, which I would love. So I think that is very exciting.”
