The War Raiders got emotional as they celebrated winning the World Tag Team Championship.
In the main event of the December 16 episode of WWE RAW, the War Raiders challenged Finn Balor and JD McDonagh for the World Tag Team Championship.
In a shock result, Erik and Ivar beat the Judgement Day to win their first tag team title since 2019. It was an emotional time for two wrestlers who have suffered devastating injuries over the last few years, with worries that they would never wrestle again.
After Raw, the War Raiders spoke in an exclusive interview after Raw on Twitter. They emotionally explained how much this meant to them, after years of setbacks and career-threatening injuries.
Ivar began, saying “It’s been a long, long, hard, vicious, brutal, trying road. Not only the last five years, but our whole careers. The setbacks and the heartaches and the disappointment and the failures and the surgeries.” The War Raiders member then added, “Everything that we’ve been through. And to be here tonight in my hometown, in Boston, in front of my family and friends. To be here… it couldn’t be more emotional and just perfect for me to know that the things that we did got us here today.”
Erik then added to that emotional speech. “There were points in the last ten years, where both of us were told more than once we’d never wrestle again. We might never walk again. i might not be able to hold my sons. Through all that, we’re still here. Through all that we have these. I don’t think there’s anything I could ever say to encapsulate what that means to us as performers, as professionals or as people.” Erik then shouted out to his children to end the promo.
