Everyone wants to know what’s next for him, but he doesn’t know. Jimmy asks that we ride with “Big Jim.” It’s going to be a big year for Big Jim. Jimmy may win the Royal Rumble. He may go after the United States Championship. Heck, he may go after the Undisputed WWE Championship. Drew McIntyre appears out of nowhere and drops Jimmy with a Claymore. McIntyre beats down Jimmy. Officials and referees hit the ring and break it up.
Grade: C+
It’s nice to see Jimmy get a chance to stand… heh… on his own, even though he is nursing an injury. Jimmy tried hard to get “Big Jim,” over with the crowd, but this writer is not convinced it works. It was legitimately surprising to see McIntyre teleport into the ring and send Big Jim to the Shadow Realm with a nasty Claymore Kick.
Women’s U.S. Title Tournament Semifinal Match: Tiffany Stratton vs. Michin
Statton slams Michin to the mat by her hair. Michin takes Stratton down and rains down punches. Stratton pushes Michin away. Michin sends Stratton flying with a rana out of the corner. Michin sends Stratton out of the ring. Stratton trips Michin on the apron. Stratton crushes Michin with a running double stomp. After the break, Michin lands a PK on the apron. Michin kicks out. Stratton crotches Michin on the top. Rolling senton by Stratton. Stratton tries the Prettiest Moonsault Ever, but Michin rolls out of the way (barely- Stratton’s head and arms still landed on Michin). Michin hits Eat d’Feet for the win.
Winner- Michin
Grade: C+
This match was great up until the finish. This writer has never seen someone not manage to roll all the way out of the way on a moonsault before. That was rough.
Backstage, Carmelo Hayes tells SmackDown GM Nick Aldis that it’s a shame he went through all this trouble just for him to wash whoever Aldis signed.
Carmelo Hayes vs……. Brawn Strowman
Hayes looks terrified. As the bell rings, Hayes tries to push Strowman, but it has no effect. Hayes tries a springboard, but Strowman walks through it. Strowman tries a running powerslam, but Hayes slips out of it. Hayes dropkicks Strowman’s knee. Springboard DDT by Hayes. Strowman kicks out at one. Hayes dives off the top and gets caught by Strowman. Running powerslam by Strowman. Strowman pins Hayes.
Winner- Brawn Strowman
Grade: B
This writer’s first instinct is to give this an F just because we had to watch Hayes get run over on live TV. But this was actually a really effective match. It was short, re-established Strowman as a monster, and further affirmed Hayes as a sniveling heel that you should want to see get beat up. Hayes didn’t get a lot of offense, but he got the right kind of offense. Hate to say it, but this was a good piece of business.
Solo Sikoa and the rest of the Outlaw Bloodline make their way to the ring. Before Sikoa can tell the crowd to acknowledge him, LA Knight‘s music hits.
LA Knight vs. Solo Sikoa w/Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu
Sikoa beats down Knight. Knight clotheslines Sikoa over the top. Sikoa pulls Knight out of the ring and drives him into the ring apron. Sikoa launches Knight into the barricade. Knight avoids it and almost lands a BFT. Sikoa ducks out of the ring. Knight dives off the apron and clotheslines Fatu and Tonga.
Fatu tries to attack Knight from behind, but Knight back drops Fatu over the commentary desk into the crowd. Sikoa misses the Samoan Spike. Side Effect by Knight. Knight lands a double jump Elbow drop. Fatu rises from the ashes and drags Knight out of the ring. The referee calls for the bell. Sikoa has been disqualified.
Winner- LA Knight
After the match, Sikoa, Fatu, and Tonga beat down Knight. Andrade and Apollo Crews try to make the save but are quickly taken out by the Outlaw Bloodline.
Grade: B
This was a good match that couldn’t have a winner. Sikoa couldn’t lose, and Knight couldn’t stand a loss here after losing the U.S. Title, so a screwy finish was inevitable. Despite that, the match had solid action, and Knight didn’t botch his double jump elbow!
Women’s U.S. Title Tournament Semifinal Match: Bayley vs. Chelsea Green
Bayley and Green trade pin. Neither woman can get the advantage. Green floors Bayley with a right hand. Bayley sends Green flying with a slingshot hip toss. Basement clothesline by Bayley. Bayley lands a flurry of offense. Green retreats out of the ring. Green takes over after Niven drags Bayley out of the ring. After the break, Green lands a Rough Rider for a near fall. Bayley is sent over the barricade by Nivenand is almost counted out. Bayley rolls into the ring and eats a knee to the face by Green. Green lands the Unprettiher for the win.
Winner- Chelsea Green
Grade: B-
This started off slow but picked up midway through. The right person won, but only if Green is going to win the whole thing. If Michin is going to win the tournament, it would mean more for her to beat Bayley to do it.
