Fans buzzed about a reported pitch that would see WWE star Chelsea Green return to GCW. However, the rumors have been dismissed.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there had been an idea from GCW for Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green to team up and face Joey Janela and Megan Bayne at GCW’s Hammerstein Ballroom event on January 19. However, WWE wouldn’t go for it.
Ibou of WrestlePurists then reported that the mixed tag pitch didn’t happen.
Joey Janela himself commented on the report, saying that it was fake news, and he was never slated for a match with Chelsea Green. He said that the original match fell through, and Masato Tanaka was booked for the show per his request. Janela wrote that he couldn’t say that he new anything about Green or GCW creative plans. He stated that his involvement had always been greatly exaggerated.
Chelsea Green previously had a run in GCW alongside her husband, Matt Cardona. She then returned to WWE and re-debuted at WWE Royal Rumble 2023. Since then, she has won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Green will compete in the semi-finals of the WWE Women’s United States Championship Tournament on the December 13 episode of WWE SmackDown.
