Kevin Owens has done all he can to coax Shawn Michaels out of retirement for one more match.
The WWE Hall of Famer is considered to be one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He retired in 2010 after a match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26 and has stayed retired, outside of a disastrous performance in Saudi Arabia in 2018.
Meanwhile, Kevin Owens is a man who has a penchant for getting legends out of retirement. He managed to goad “Stone Cold” Steve Austin into a match at WrestleMania 38 and is trying to do the same with the Heart Break Kid,
Kevin Owens recently spoke with MuscleManMalcolm where he was asked who his dream match would be against. He named Shawn Michaels and explained how his attempts to get him to wrestle him have all been in vain.
Owens even joked that HBK got tricep surgery just to avoid wrestling him. He seemed resigned to the fact that Shawn Michaels will remain retired, but still sees him as a dream match, despite being Canadian and presumably a big Bret Hart fan.
“Well, the answer is always Shawn Michaels. I really try pretty much every year, but I think I’m done trying now.” Kevin Owens said. “I mean, it’s been three years running where he’s politely said no to me. I think the next time I ask, he’ll probably just tell me to, you know, uh… F off—to put it nicely.
“Last year, I think he literally had tricep surgery just to avoid the question. But yeah, if I could wrestle anyone, I’d love to wrestle Shawn Michaels. I have no doubt he’d still be able to put in a performance like no other. But he’s done with it. Trust me—I’ve tried.” Kevin Owens added.
