Zack Sabre Jr. has been named Tokyo Sports’ MVP of 2024.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced that Sabre Jr. has been named Tokyo Sports’ pro-wrestling MVP for 2024. In doing so, he became the first foreigner to win the award since Bob Sapp in 2002.
In 2024, Zack Sabre Jr. won the G1 Climax 34 tournament, and he went on to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. He beat Tetsuya Naito for the title at NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling on October 14.
Zack Sabre Jr. Comments
NJPW shared comments from Zack Sabre Jr, who said that he was honored to win the award.
“Of all the things I set out to achieve this year, I thought Tokyo Sports MVP was the hardest to attain…[The award is] one of the greatest achievements not just of my career but my life. Everything I’ve done combined over the last 13 years has led to this award. I feel vindicated that my 14 year old self had such vision when I was dreaming of this.”
“I was very conscious there had only been one foreign MVP,” he said. “But it was important to be accepted this year just as an NJPW wrestler, it’s nice to win as a foreigner but (the award) is more a sign that I’m just accepted in the wrestling fabric.”
