Bobby Lashley wants more wrestling promotions to give even more competition to WWE and AEW.
The former WWE Champion recently made the jump from the WWE to work for Tony Khan. He came in alongside MVP and Shelton Benjamin, forming The Hurt Syndicate faction.
A win over former AEW Champion Swerve Strickland added instant credibility for The Almighty. He is happy to see AEW around and actually wants even more major promotions to pop up.
Bobby Lashley recently spoke with Denise Salcedo and was asked about his first impressions of AEW and whether he ever saw himself joining.
He said that he thought it was “awesome” to see it pop up, and wants even more promotions to follow suit. Bobby Lashley added that he asked ex-WWE stars like Edge and Samoa Joe if the company would be a good for for him.
“When AEW first launched, I was like, ‘Man, that is awesome,’ because there’s another outlet for people to perform. For me, I think the greatest thing for the sport of wrestling is competition. I wish we could have several different promotions thriving.” Bobby Lashley said. “I always tell people: ‘Why are we putting other companies down?”. Some of our guys will say, “Let’s bury them,” and I think that’s ridiculous.”
“I wish there were four, five, or six other major companies. I tell people: ‘Watch our show, watch WWE, watch TNA, watch Ring of Honor, watch New Japan. Watch all of them.’ Because I love the sport of wrestling, and I love seeing people reach their goals and have opportunities to showcase their talents.”
“So for me, I thought it was amazing that AEW came around and gave another outlet for performers. But at the same time, I was like, ‘Am I going to be there?’ Four years ago, if you’d asked me, I would’ve said, “Probably not.” I thought I was going to stay with WWE and then retire.”
“But things changed. As they started to shift, I thought, ‘You know what? I like what they’re doing over there.‘ I talked with a lot of friends—Edge, Samoa Joe, and others who had joined AEW—and they all had positive things to say.”
Bobby Lashley: The Hurt Syndicate Was A Big Part Of Joining AEW
“The big thing for me was my group, The Hurt Syndicate. The Hurt Syndicate never got their justice before. We didn’t get to do what we wanted in WWE. But here, Tony Khan loved the idea. He was like, ‘Yes, I’ll give you guys a platform to do the thing you wanted to do before.'”
“And for me, that’s all I needed.”
