The Alpha Academy is recruiting new members, and they are looking for the WWE Universe to sign up and try out.
WWE shared a video in which the trio of Maxxine Dupri, Otis, and Akira Tozawa took part in an infomercial for Alpha Academy. The commercial mimics that of classic 1980s-1990s physical fitness tapes and promises perks like an all-meat dinner with Otis, exclusive dance lessons from Tozawa, and unlimited selfies with Dupri.
The post also comes with its own website, which has other informational “how to” videos featuring the group, more information on the superstars, and a shop. A phone number is also listed on the website.
Otis On Doing The Worm
Tozawa may be the one giving dance lessons to Alpha Academy recruits, but Otis is known for doing the worm. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet on his Insight Podcast, Otis revealed the origin story of his famous dance move.
“I remember it was called the sock hop in Cooper Elementary School. And mom says, ‘Get your ass out of the house. You watch too much horror, watching too much damn wrestling. Get out the house. I’m gonna take you to sock hop.’ Apparently it’s a form of dancing. You get in there and it’s typical. I’m not gonna dance with a girl. It’s kind of like fifth grade. I’m like, Alright, so walk up to the DJ and said, ‘Excuse me, sir. Do you have ‘Batter Up’ by Nelly?’ He’s like ‘Yeah, but I wasn’t planning on playing that.’ [I said] Play it next. Walked away. Next thing, I was waiting for the song to play.
“But 10 More Polka songs came on finally. That goes up. All the dudes dance with their chicks, I just dropped down, did it, boom. Got that first reaction attention. I’ve never been a big attention guy but it’s always been like, show some love to for your like craft and performing. So I drop down on there. Always been hooked [on wrestling] it’s a totally good addiction to have,” Otis said.
