Curtis Axel Reflects On His Relationship With Bray Wyatt: He’s Severely Missed

Curtis Axel got emotional as he recalled his time spent with Bray Wyatt.

The pair were very close during their time in the WWE. Both men were part of The Nexus when they debuted in the company on NXT. In addition, they even feuded over the WWE Tag Team Championship later on in their careers.

Curtis Axel spoke with Monte & The Pharaoh where he was asked about his relationship with Bray Wyatt and how his 2023 passing affected him.

The former WWE Superstar teared up as he recalled his time in The Nexus with Bray Wyatt before explaining how close the pair were.

“So, me and Bray got brought up to NXT at the same time to jump John Cena. We saw each other at the airport and were like, ‘What the hell are you doing here?’ ‘What are you doing here?’ Then we became Nexus and jumped John Cena.” Curtis Axel said.

“After that, we ended up doing a bunch of stuff together, which was a lot of fun. We rode together. He’s like my best friend. One of his daughters is my goddaughter; that’s how close we are. But, as the years went on, things changed. He got sent down to NXT, and I stayed on the road with WWE. I think I told you this already—he went down to NXT, revamped himself as Bray Wyatt, which was awesome.”

“I don’t know if he ever had a grudge against me for staying while he was sent down, but honestly, that was the best decision for him. He was green at the time and not ready for the main roster—not as Husky Harris and all that.”

Curtis Axel Recalls Travelling With Bray Wyatt

“He made himself into Bray Wyatt, and the way he did it—the way he thought—it was just incredible. It was so cool to listen to him.” Curtis Axel said.

“When I think back to those times with Bray, or Windham, it’s things like traveling down the road at 100 miles an hour. We’d get to the hotel, and he’d be like, ‘Holy shit, it’s hot in here! God dang it!’ I’d throw my clothes down and jump in bed, and he’d go into the bathroom. Next thing you know, he’d come out of nowhere, in his underwear, yelling, ‘Hog pile!’ and just splash onto me!”

“He was funny like that. We played so many jokes on each other—though I’m not telling you the ones I played on him! It was just so much fun being around him. He was such a fun-loving guy. He’s severely missed.”
