Tetsuya Naito To Undergo Eye Surgery

Tetsuya Naito is set to undergo another eye surgery.

Naito and Hiromu Takahashi won the NJPW World Tag League on December 8. Naito also agreed to face Takahashi at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19.

In an interview with Tokyo Sports, Tetsuya Naito revealed that he will be having his fourth eye surgery ahead of the match. Naito noted that he would be undergoing emergency surgery in order to improve his vision. Naito has previously had three surgeries on his right eye, the last of which was in November 2022. He has dealt with eye issues for nearly 20 years.

The procedure will help align his vision in both of his eyes. Naito noted that he had postponed the procedure, but he has now decided to have the surgery.

Tetsuya Naito Comments

Naito commented on getting the surgery and noted that he was currently dealing with impaired vision.

“People often talk about my knee, but my eye is more serious,” Naito said. “When I look at the ground, I see two different kinds of ground, one flat and one slanted. Because I am running with such vision, my feet are dazed, my opponents look like two people, and depending on the location, it is difficult to get a sense of distance. It was very stressful because I could not concentrate 100% on the game alone.”

Naito previously said that his doctor told him that he could not have more than three surgeries on his right eye, and getting the procedure on his left eye was risky, so he put it off. Naito will have the surgery on December 18. He said that he was nervous, but he wanted to take a chance at potentially being able to recover.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
