Matt Cardona On ROH Debut: I’ve Been Busting My Ass For Years, It’s About To Pay Off

Matt Cardona says his hard work is about to pay off.

On the December 5 episode of ROH on HonorClub, ROH World Champion Chris Jericho held a special edition of TV Time. He was interrupted by the debuting Matt Cardona, who answered his challenge for ROH Final Battle.

In a tweet, Matt Cardona commented on his appearance on the show and looked forward to challenging for the title.

“I’ve been busting my ass for 5 years and it’s about to pay off,” he wrote.

WWE released Matt Cardona in 2020. He has since reinvented himself and had prominent runs in TNA, GCW, and NWA. He also had a brief run in AEW and later made a one-off return to face Adam Copeland.

Matt Cardona: I Can Only Control What I Can Control

In October, Cardona discussed not getting an offer from WWE or AEW despite his success throughout the wrestling world. Speaking with Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Cardona explained that he could only control what he could control.

“I can only control what I can control. I’m not gonna lie to the people, I’m not gonna pretend there’s been all these offers,” Matt Cardona said. “As a matter of fact, I haven’t been offered anything from WWE or AEW, and it is what it is. Maybe that will change one day, but for now, I just need to focus on being me. I need to focus on reinventing myself again, I need to focus on being the top guy on the indies for another year, I gotta focus on maybe changing the indies, elevating other people.

“I can’t harp on what’s not going on, I have to focus and put all my focus on just me and create my own path and create my own legacy, and I feel like the past four years. But it’s almost another year. It’s almost 2025, so the pressure’s on to top myself, and it’s a good pressure, I love the pressure.”
