Trick Williams has credited Carmelo Hayes for laying the foundations for his career in NXT.
The pair were friends-turned-rivals in NXT. The pair split up following a successful time together. Williams and Hayes feuded until the latter was called up to the main roster.
Trick Williams recently spoke with the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast. He was asked who helped make Trick Williams as a wrestler.
The NXT Champion credited it to Carmelo Hayes. He said the chance to watch him compete in main events was invaluable to his education and he got to learn so much working with him.
He also thinks he helped Hayes’ career as much as he helped his, which is an interesting claim from Trick Williams.
“God, my family and where I’m from. Aside from that, talking about inside the business? Somebody who laid a great platform for me, I can’t go without saying Carmelo Hayes. I learnt a lot being beside or back and to the right of Carmelo Hayes. When he had the main event matches for the PLEs, for the Tuesday nights, I was able to sit there and learn and build a rapport with the audience without having the pressure of having to put on the 20-minute bangers for the title. I was able to see what the main event scene was like without having that pressure first.”
“I also got to sit back and learn all of Melo’s ways he did great and I got to learn what works for him and what didn’t work for him. He’s like the oldest child – it’s like a test run! I was able to learn so anytime anybody asks me, I give him his flowers because he carried the brand. I like to think I helped his career as much as he helped mine.”
