Ricochet: It’s Funny Fans Blame Me For Samantha Irvin Leaving WWE

Ricochet sees the humor in fans blaming him for Samantha Irvin leaving the WWE.

The WWE announcer left the company in October, which was a huge shock to the fans. She was well regarded as the best ring announcer in the company and was the voice of Cody Rhodes’ victory in the main event of WrestleMania 40.

Her exit came just months after her partner Ricochet exited the WWE to join AEW. He debuted at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium, which some fans blamed him for her leaving the company when she did.

Ricochet spoke with Barstool Rasslin to dispel any notion that he made her leave the company. He noted that it was “so funny” that fans blamed him for her exit, and explained that she simply didn’t like doing the job anymore.

“I think it’s so funny the fans blame me. Apparently, I convinced her—like, I convinced her to leave her dream job just to stay at home with me,” he joked. “No. I said, ‘You better quit, and you better stay at home, take care of the kids, and clean the house. I’m going to go make the money.’ Yeah, that’s exactly what happened. That’s what happened.

“No, what really happened was she said, ‘I don’t really like doing this specific job, and I’m obviously not going to get the opportunities that I really want. So, I’m going to step away.’ She wasn’t born to be a ring announcer. She was born to be an actress, a singer, and a character—not just a ring announcer.

“Her identity became ring announcer, and that’s when she realized, ‘Oh man, I like playing that role. It was a great role to play within the company, but I want to evoke more emotion in people in other ways.'”

Ricochet: Me Leaving WWE Was The Straw That Broke The Camel’s Back

Despite what he said, Ricochet did admit that his leaving WWE may have been the final straw for Samantha Irvin. However, he made it clear that wasn’t the main reason and she had much more legitimate reasons to want to go out on her own, outside of the WWE.

“I will say, I do think me leaving was kind of like the straw that broke the camel’s back. It wasn’t the deciding factor, but I think it was just one of those things she was already considering.”

“She had been thinking about it. I want to say maybe around last year’s WrestleMania, she was like, ‘This is the pinnacle. I’m done.’’ So, I think that’s when it kind of started for her. But yeah, I will say, maybe me leaving was just the straw.”
