Trevor Lee: Shane Helms Is Very Witty, I’ve Always Looked Up To Him And Tried To Mimic That

Trevor Lee speaks on his long-term friendship with WWE Producer Shane Helms.

Lee recently sat down with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard and reflected on his time in the Helms Dynasty in TNA (then IMPACT Wrestling). The group debuted in 2016 and it consisted of Lee, Helms and Andrew Everett (and Marshe Rockett for a time).

When asked about how the Helms Dynasty was pitched, Lee said it was not done on a whim, noting how he and Everett knew each other since he was a teenager. He appreciates Helms, who was starting to transition into a producer role, vouching for him and loved the time they spent together on-screen.

Trevor Lee on the Helms Dynasty connection

“Yeah. Well, there’s definitely is a connection,” Trevor Lee said. “Me and Andrew Everett, we’ve been attached since 15 years old. We trained together like every day until I was 24 years old. We were always attached together. And then Shane Helms was a very influential figure in the North Carolina scene. He had also known me ever since I was a child. And he had known Drew ever since he was a child.

“It wasn’t like it was a thrown-together thing. That was real. At the time, that was Shane Helms’ first time really starting to become a producer figure and not just like an on-screen talent. He still was an on-screen talent at that time. But that’s when he started becoming a Producer, was around that time. So, the fact that he had the trust to put his neck out there for me and Andrew Everett, and to be able to give us that opportunity and be a mouthpiece for us,” Lee explained.

“So, to be able to have a mouthpiece at that time when we both were lacking that at the time was really great,” he continued. “To be able to learn television with someone that we felt very comfortable with in Shane Helms was so cool.”

Trevor Lee admits Shane Helms is kind of smartass

While speaking about Helms’ playful interactions with fans at ringside, Lee admitted that Helms is very intelligent and witty, and that’s something he’s always looked up to.

“Right. Shane is very intelligent,” Trevor Lee said. “And if you ever talk to him, he’ll let you know that. Because he is very witty. He’s very… Like a smartass if you will. And like you said, he can get that out of you without doing very little because he is so smart.

“I’ve always looked up to that and tried to kind of mimic that style of being a smartass in the back. But, it hasn’t worked out as well for me as it has for him,” he quipped.
