Gunther On Survivor Series Victory: Mentally Getting Back On My Feet Was Definitely A Challenge

Gunther found his victory at Survivor Series a big challenge.

The World Heavyweight Champion defended his title against Damian Priest at the event in Vancouver. Gunther won the title from Priest at Summerslam this year and began a run that has seen him struggle with his confidence in the ring.

A loss to Cody Rhodes in Saudi Arabia dented his self-esteem and has struggled over the past few weeks. Damian Priest has sought to take advantage of this in their match, although he failed to win the championship back at Survivor Series.

At the Survivor Series: WarGames Post-Show, Gunther was asked about how his lack of confidence affected him in the match.

Gunther explained that he went a bit off-track after losing to Cody Rhodes and that composing himself mentally was tough against the “dangerous” Damian Priest.

“Well, I have to say, tonight was very important for me personally. I think the reason why I’m usually very successful is that I don’t get flabbergasted by this stuff. I stay very focused and rational.” Gunther said.

“But also, I give 100% of myself. That’s something that got a little bit off track when I lost to Cody. I’ve got to say, Priest has really developed into one of the most dangerous guys in WWE, and that timing was an issue.”

“To get mentally back on my feet again was definitely a challenge today. But yeah, tonight was important.” Gunther added.
