Hornswoggle shares a fun story from his time in WWE, as he looks back on falling under asleep under the ring.
Speaking with The Undertaker on his Six Feet Under podcast, Hornswoggle recalled the time he fell asleep under the ring. He started by noting that he was not used to drinking so much while on an international tour.
“We’re on this international tour,” he said. “Every night, I am joining him at the hotel bar. I’m not used to this lifestyle, I’m not used to drinking this every night at my age. So I might have been overserved. I’m blaming it on [being] overserved and sleep deprivation. So we have a six-man…I remember the match being, it is you, Kane, Batista, versus Fit, Khali, and Big Daddy V. We did this a lot. Taker would do something to Fit, and he would hit him with a shillelagh. Fit would get out of the ring, he’d pull the ring apron, there’s little Dylan. Grabs me, puts me in, I’m gonna attack big Undertaker. He sits up, oh, sh*t because when he sits up, it’s about my height. He goozles me, there’s Fit to save little Dylan, and we go on.
“This night…I can now hear the match because underneath the ring, I was under there from before the show, they would load me before the show. Long time, their main event. So it gets to the match, and I can hear what’s going on in the ring. Time comes, goozle, I can hear Fit, shillelagh spot, and in my mind, every other night, this is my spot. That night, I didn’t hear any of it because that night, I was sleeping because I was still drunk. I was sleeping from before the people walked in through the show. Six, seven matches above me going crazy. It’s so loud. But I was doing it for a decent amount of time, I was used to it. I could change under there, I could get dressed under there. It was my home.”
Hornswoggle Details Getting Woken Up
Hornswoggle then described how Finlay woke up him and got him in the ring. He noted that he apologized, as he realized that The Undertaker was waiting for him.
“The way I hear it, I am laying down in my spot, where Fit’s gonna get me,” Hornswoggle said. “Fit opens the apron, and he sees little Dylan laying face-down on the mat, and goes, ‘Hey!’ Nothing. ‘Hey!’ Nothing. He thinks one of the ring beams knocked me out. Nope. I proceed to look up. I go, ‘Hey, Fit. Oh no.’ He goes, ‘Come on.’ I go, ‘Oh, no.’ Because now I think [Undertaker] is in the ring waiting for me. Oh, no. Fit grabs me, and I can feel Fit laughing. He’s laughing while grabbing me and throwing me in the ring. I get in the ring, I look at Fit, I go, ‘I’m so sorry.’
“Then I realize, oh no, I shouldn’t be apologizing to him. Walking up to [Undertaker], who’s laying down, I’m gonna, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry.’ He sits up, I go, ‘I am so sorry.’ He [grabs me], and we go on [laughs]. I remember getting to the back. The first person that came to the back was Big Daddy V. He goes, ‘What happened?’ I go, ‘I was sleeping.’ He goes, ‘Oh.’ Now Fit. I go, ‘I was sleeping.’ He goes, ‘This will be good.’ I tell Kane, he dies laughing. I tell Batista, he dies laughing. The last person to meet up with me is [Undertaker]. He goes, ‘What happened out there?’ ‘I was sleeping, sir. I’m so sorry.’ ‘What?’ ‘I was sleeping.’ He does that eye roll, like, ‘I can’t believe this.'”
Hornswoggle On The Aftermath
Hornswoggle that he asked Fit what to do, and he realized he had to get Undertaker some “booze” to make up for it, and they drank it together, so it all worked out. The Undertaker chimed in by saying that, in the moment, he thought Hornswoggle was dead because the spot was taking so long.
“I thought he’s dead. It’s uncomfortable,” he said. “I’m laying there. But you know how long things take for it to happen. I’m like, what the hells going on? I’m laying there and I’m trying to look, and I’m noticing it’s taking an exorbitant about of time. I can kind of hear what I think is Fit laughing. Oh, man. I was like, how on earth does anybody fall asleep underneath a ring?”
Hornswoggle then reiterated that it was his home, as he spent the whole show there.
