Most people don’t like to overlook opponents for a bigger match. Ethan Page has no problem admitting he’s looking past Axiom.
Page spoke with WrestleZone ahead of his Iron Survivor Qualifying match on Tuesday’s new episode of NXT on The CW. He’ll face Axiom with a chance to move on to Deadline to earn a world title shot in a match known as “the most exciting 25 minutes in all of wrestling.” Page is confident going into the match, but he also says WWE even thinks he’s going to beat Axiom.
“I’m confident that I’m going to beat Axiom. No offense Axiom, I think WWE is confident I’m going to beat you, too. I don’t see you sitting in this room being interviewed to talk about Deadline. If you’re lucky enough to squeak one past me, by all means, you can come re-do all of these interviews and do the hospital visits, the charity events, everything that Ethan Page does to make this company better,” Page said.
“That’s why I’m here, because I’m going to kick your ass and move on [to the Iron Survivor match at NXT Deadline],” Page added. “But also, we’ve got to sell some subscriptions here and get people to tune in. ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page is the one to do that. So we’re going into Deadline, and I’m just going to gloss over Axiom. Lucky enough, his tag team partner is in the match. So if both of them are upset with the outcome of the match on Tuesday, don’t worry, Frazier can ‘make good on that’ come Deadline.
Ethan Page wants to extinguish Je’Von Evans’ flame too
Je’Von Evans is one of the names who has already qualified for the Men’s Iron Survivor match at Deadline. Page took joy in pointing out that Evans has shown glimpses of greatness, but he can’t win the big win. He can’t wait to ensure Evans comes up short again at Deadline, noting that Evans reminds him of the Toronto Maple Leafs, a hockey team that has not won a championship in 56 seasons (and counting).
“I personally can’t wait to get my hands on Je’Von Evans. I’m waiting for that flame to just run out. It would be nice. But it seems like the closer this guy gets to making it happen — and he keeps losing, but these idiots in the crowd, they just love him more and more! Dude, I don’t get it. You know what it reminds me of? I’m Canadian, it’s like in Toronto, these morons love the Maple Leafs. They’re never going to win. They are never going to win, that’s Je’Von Evans! He’s never going to win. He’s never going to win! I’ll make sure that he doesn’t,” Page stated.
Ethan Page doesn’t understand how the entire NXT fanbase is not in support of him. He’s a winner, and has no problem cheating to secure a win, either.
“I’m going to do things that no one else will do to win. One of them is to wrestle for 18 years straight and become as good as I am. No one else in the match is going to do that in the match. No one else is going to cheat. Do you think I give a crap morally? No. No, I like winning,” Page explained. “The fans should like winners, but they love losers. So that’s what’s going to happen. I’m going to beat Axiom and then embarrass Je’Von Evans. That, to me, would fill my heart, and that’s all I’m in wrestling for — myself. I’m sick of these other dorks.”
Our full interview with Ethan Page will be released on WrestleZone this week.
