Bryan Danielson Comments On His Health, Says He Was Careful Not To Say ‘Retirement’

Bryan Danielson provides an update on his health.

Danielson has not wrestled or appeared on AEW programming since Jon Moxley beat him to win the AEW World Championship at AEW WrestleDream. Ahead of the match, Danielson made it clear that his full-time wrestling career would be over once he lost the title. He also said that he needed neck surgery.

“I was very cautious to not say ‘retirement,’ except for the match where if I lost (against Swerve), I would retire,” Danielson said. “After that, it was all, ‘the end of my full-time wrestling career.’ We don’t know what’s going to happen with my neck, but it honestly feels like I have a bobblehead.”

After his wife Brie stated that Bryan still needs neck surgery, she noted that she wanted to write a special post to recognize the end of his full-time career. He responded by saying that wrestlers never retired.

“To me, at the end of the day, I realized this with my last retirement, which was forced,” Bryan Danielson said. “I didn’t want to retire, but they wouldn’t let me wrestle again. What I found is people are sad for a bit. Then, everybody just moves on and it doesn’t matter. The hardest part for it is probably for the person who does it.”

Additionally, Bryan Danielson stated that there was more contentment in life without wrestling, but he was missing the excitement that comes with the sport.

As of this writing, there is no word on whether Bryan Danielson will return to the ring.
