Montez Ford Is Glad To Be An Example Of Success Without Having An Indie Background

Montez Ford is happy to show that you can be a success in the WWE without any wrestling experience.

Ford signed a contract with the WWE in 2015, despite not having a background on the indie scene. He began teaming with Angelo Dawkins a year later and remains a part of The Street Profits to this day.

Despite rumors that he is set to go solo and leave the tag team, Montez Ford is happy as part of the duo. He is also happy to be an example of how one can succeed in the WWE despite a lack of experience prior.

Montez Ford spoke with The Five Count (H/T to Fightful for the transcription) about his success in the WWE despite no indie experience. He said that he is glad to be able to break the mould of what makes a successful WWE Superstar.

“It is, man, and I’m glad I’m one of the examples to have that point proven wrong. I come from a military athletic background.” Montez Ford said. “I watched wrestling growing up, but I never, like, never did anything independent-wise. I never did independent scenes. So, I’m glad I’m one of the examples of breaking a mould of, like, hey, you don’t have to have, like, a wrestling background to become or be successful as a sports entertainer. So, very glad I’m at the forefront of that as well.”

Montez Ford is frustrated that the Street Profits aren’t in the conversation for being a top team despite all they’ve done in WWE.

spoke with The Daily Mail, where he aired his frustrations with his current WWE run. He noted that, while he has his dream job, his frustrated that he has not accomplished his goals yet. Ford added that the audience is quick to forget the Street Profits accomplishments, and laments how little they are talked about by the fans.

“For me to sit here and go like, how’s it going, that it’s good, that’d be a lie,’ he reflects. ‘There’s always pleasure in doing what you love. What you admire, what you have dreamt of, what you have goals in and passion for. But it does get to that sense of frustration where anything you try to accomplish in life. Where you may feel like it’s either taking too long, or it’s been too long, or nothing’s happening.”

“You’ve got new faces showing up on the scene. Our audience naturally tends to forget what we’ve done and how we’ve done it. In the now, it is at the point where it’s been almost four years since we’ve been tag team champions.”
