Dustin Rhodes still wants to become a world champion in wrestling.
At 55 years old, the former Goldust is one of the most experienced wrestlers on the AEW roster. He is currently the ROH Tag Team and Six-Man Tag Team Champion, holding the belts with Sammy Guevara and the Von Erichs, respectively.
Despite his vast experience, Dustin Rhodes has never won a world title in wrestling. However, he is holding out hope that it is a goal he can still reach before he retires.
Dustin Rhodes spoke with WFAA, revealing his career goal is to win the World Heavyweight Championship. He notes how his two titles make him think it’s possible, adding that everyone in the business should aim to become a world champion.
“There’s one thing that every wrestler if they don’t want this when they get into the business, they don’t belong in the business — and that’s to become world heavyweight champion. That is the one thing that is missing.”
“I’ve won many, many titles from both companies and all kinds of companies across the world. But winning the world heavyweight title puts a feather in your cap, so to speak. I’m 55. Is it too late? I don’t think so.”
“I have two belts right now. Here I am with the Ring of Honor Tag Team Titles and the Six-Man World Tag Team Titles — and it happened this year at 55! I’m just like, wow, the sky is the limit. It is possible.”
Dustin Rhodes Is Inspired By Sting’s Longevity
“So I think when you get in the wrestling industry, that should be your number one goal. Of course, you’re gonna make a lot of money with that. You’re gonna make a lot of money, period, in the wrestling industry. It’s great. You take care of your family; you don’t have to worry about things.”
“But it’s an ever-evolving business. You’ve gotta be able to change on the fly, continue your rise, and always have that end goal in mind.”
“I don’t see an end in sight for me just quite yet. Sting was a big inspiration for that. I was a huge fan of his, and when I met him the first time, I started painting my face because of him. Watching him go until he was 60 or 62 years old was amazing and very inspirational. It gives me hope that I can still go a little bit longer.”
