AEW Dynamite Results

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with a condensed version of the November Rain music video package to hype up this weekend’s Full Gear pay-per-view.

We then kick off things with an All Star 8-Man Tag match.

Ricochet, Powerhouse Hobbs, Will Ospreay, and Mark Davis vs. Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Lance Archer, and Brian Cage

  • Powerhouse Hobbs left the match early, seemingly injured but returned late in the match. The finish of the match saw Konosuke Takeshita hit Mark Davis with the running knee to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: The Don Callis Family

Grade: A-

Perfect match to kick off the show. AEW’s multi-man tag team matches are so much fun. Fletcher pulling Davis in the way of Ospreay’s Hidden Blade in the closing moments of the match will likely explain why Davis aligns with Fletcher at Full Gear this weekend. I’d like to see Ospreay win, but I think Aussie Open staying together at this point is more important.

Jon Moxley is ready for AEW Full Gear

The Death Riders are backstage. Jon Moxley calls Orange Cassidy a snake and says his objective on Saturday night remains the same. Moxley says he doesn’t care what type of person Cassidy is, on Saturday night he a threat to his people and he will destroy him.

Mox says Orange Cassidy might make it to Full Gear with his mind but his body is still up for grabs. Claudio Castagnoli says he will end Darby Allin tonight.

Darby Allin is outside and says Claudio is the one who put the steel chair on Bryan Danielson’s neck, and every member of the Death Riders will have their today, tonight is Castagnoli’s turn.

Renee Paquette is outside waiting for the arrival of The Hurt Syndicate. MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley arrive and MVP announces that Lashley will be in action tonight prior to his match at Full Gear. Swerve Strickland attacks Lashley with a chain around his fist and takes off as MVP and Benjamin help Lashley to his feet.

Kyle O’Reilly confronts Adam Cole

Adam Cole comes to the ring to speak. Cole says MJF did everything in his power to make sure they wouldn’t face each other at Full Gear this weekend and he succeeded. Cole says Roderick Strong did succeed and he’s gonna give MJF the ass-kicking of a lifetime at Full Gear.

Kyle O’Reilly makes his way to the ring. O’Reilly says years ago in this city, they had their first match together. O’Reilly says he knows Cole better than anyone and this crusade against MJF needs to end before someone gets hurt. Kyle says Cole needs to stop having his friends fight his battles for him.

O’Reilly says he doesn’t have a good feeling about Full Gear this weekend. Cole asks Kyle if he doesn’t think Roddy can handle this. O’Reilly says MJF is three steps ahead of everyone else and he’s been away for weeks pulling the strings. O’Reilly says MJF is more of an evil bastard than Cole will ever be, and that’s a good thing. Kyle walks out leaving Cole in the ring pondering what he was just told.

Orange Cassidy is backstage and says he’s going to fight Wheeler Yuta alone tonight. Mark Briscoe tries to talk him out of it but Cassidy is insistent. Cassidy will be facing Yuta tonight without any backup.

The TBS Title scene is heating up

Kris Statlander vs. Hikaru Shida

  • The finish of the match saw Kris Statlander hit Hikaru Shida with Staturday Night Fever to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Kris Statlander

After the match, Mercedes Moné and Kamille come out on the stage. Moné buries the 76ers and puts over the Celtics. Moné says Statlander had an impressive win tonight, but she’s held the TBS Championship longer than her. Mercedes says she won’t lose at Full Gear because she’s the CEO and she will never lose the TBS Title. The crowd tells her to shut the f*ck up.

Moné tells Kamille to attack Statlander, but her arm is in a sling. Kamille gets in the ring with Shida and Shida and gets taken out by both women. Moné tries to jump Statlander from behind but Statlander reverses it and hits her with Staturday Night Fever.

Grade: B+

Very good match between Shida and Statlander. The table is set for Statlander’s big match with Mercedes at Full Gear. Based on the aftermath of this match, I don’t see a title change happening this weekend, but AEW has surprised me before. We’ll see how it goes.

Backstage MVP and Shelton Benjamin are looking for Swerve Strickland. They think they find him but it’s someone else wearing his coat. MVP and Benjamin beat him the guy up anyway.

The video package airs hyping up the rematch between Jay White and Hangman Page at AEW Full Gear this weekend.

Bobby Lashley (w/ Shelton Benjamin and MVP) vs. Joey Keys and Cheeseburger

  • Bobby Lashley puts Joey Keys in the Hurt Lock to win the match via submission.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

After the match, Swerve Strickland’s music hits. Shelton Benjamin chases off Prince Nana as Strickland comes out from under the ring and attacks Lashley and hits him with the House Call and the Swerve Stomp. By the time the Hurt Syndicate are back together, Strickland gets away and heads out through the crowd.

Grade: A

I typically don’t like to grade squash matches, but that was a damn fun one. The Swerve Strickland aftermath ruled and really helped put another layer of hype on their match this weekend at Full Gear. I believe these two men can still the show on Saturday night.

Mariah May and Mina Shirakawa will be in action on AEW Rampage

Mariah May and Mina Shirakawa are backstage. May announces before her big celebration this weekend at Full Gear, that she and Shirakawa will be in tag team action this Friday night on Rampage.

Darby Allin vs. Claudio Castagnoli

  • The finish of the match saw Claudio Castagnoli hit Darby Allin with a Lariat to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Claudio Castagnoli

Grade: B+

The final couple minutes of this match took the match from an A to a B. The table not breaking was very unfortunate, and replaying it made it look even worse. The lariat finish was pretty anti-climactic and took away from what was an incredible match.

Private Party have a segment backstage and interacts with the Costco guys. Big Boom AJ says he has a big announcement up next.

We get a video promo from MJF, hyping up his match with Roderick Strong this weekend at Full Gear. You can check it out in the embedded video below.

Big Boom AJ tells Renee Paquette his strategy this weekend is to bring the boom against QT Marshall. AJ says the Rizzler (whoever that is) will be the special guest timekeeper this weekend.

Roderick Strong speaks on AEW Dynamite

Tony Schiavone is on the stage and brings out Roderick Strong and The Kingdom. Strong says he hasn’t slept since last Wednesday. Strong says he feels like a kid on Christmas morning because he’s about to get his hands on MJF this weekend.

Roderick wants to know if he’s supposed to be ashamed of his childhood and his parents. Strong says you might feel sorry for him because of his past, but he feels sorry for MJF. Strong says to get the most out of life, you have to earn it and he’s earned everything he has.

Roddy says he wants MJF to think about everything wrong he’s done to people over the years and know that at Full Gear he’s going to pay for all of his sins and when it’s all over, he’ll get the best night’s sleep of his life knowing he humbled MJF.

A video package plays recapping what happened on AEW Collision this weekend between Daniel Garcia, Daddy Magic, and Jack Perry. Daddy Magic then plays additional footage that didn’t air on Collision.

This segment could have been 30 seconds long

Renee Paquette tries to get the contract signed between Chris Jericho and Tomohiro Ishii. Jericho claims his lawyer hasn’t looked at the contract yet and leaves with it. Ishii then stalks him all over the building and the two men end up in the ring.

Jericho says he would sign the contract but he doesn’t have a pen. Ishii pulls one out of his trunks and gives it to him. Jericho reluctantly signs the contract as Big Bill and Bryan Keith attack Ishii from behind. Jericho tries to stab Ishii with the pen but Mark Briscoe and Rocky Romero hit the ring to even the odds and lay out The Learning Tree. Ishii signs the contract and drops it on top of a fallen Jericho.

Jamie Hayter is backstage with Renee Paquette. Hayter says she’s baffled why Julia Hart interrupted what she had to say last week. Hayter says Hart is free to do whatever she wants, but if she wants to have a chat… Jamie is once again cut off by another Julia Hart vignette.

Orange Cassidy vs. Wheeler Yuta

  • The finish of the match saw Wheeler Yuta try to hit Orange Cassidy with a chair but Cassidy avoided it and got a rollup on Yuta to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Orange Cassidy

After the match, The Death Riders hit the ring and surround and beat down Orange Cassidy. Castagnoli puts Cassidy’s hands in his pockets and PAC tapes his hands to keep them there. Moxley punches and slaps Cassidy over and over. The Death Riders leave Cassidy lying and exit through the crowd.

Grade: A-

The Conglomeration comes out and helps Cassidy up as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.

AEW Dynamite Review:

Oh boy… this was a tale of two hours for me. I thought the first hour of this show was fantastic. But the conclusion of the Allin/Castagnoli match to the beginning of the main event was a real mixed bag. There were some good things in that time frame, but more bad than good in my opinion.

Luckily, the main event saved the second hour for me, and the aftermath setting the stage for Moxley and Cassidy’s match at Full Gear was incredibly well done. I don’t foresee Moxley losing this weekend, but they ended the show in a way that makes you believe Cassidy has a chance, and I dig that. Bring on the pay-per-view!

Grade: B
