Private Party Went To Chris Jericho For Advice On How To Evolve

Private Party is showing a more authentic side.

One of the top tag teams in AEW is the team of Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy, Private Party. Recently, at the AEW Dynamite: Fright Night edition, Private Party defeated the Young Bucks to become the new AEW World Tag Team Champions. It is the first time the duo managed to capture the tag team titles for the first time in their run in the Jacksonville-based promotion.

While speaking to Chris Jericho on his Talk is Jericho podcast, Private Party’s Isiah Kassidy spoke about how he was convinced that his team was lacking in something when compared to the others in the roster. The duo went to The Ocho for advice on how they could evolve.

“In my opinion, I feel like once you’re in a company for five years and you see a lot of guys come in and they surpass you. Obviously, what we’re doing is not working. We desperately need a change. I talked to Quen and said, ‘We need something different.’ We shot a video in New York the day before Grand Slam. I like Shots, but they’ve been hearing Shots. We came and talk to [Jericho] about it.

“How do we evolve? You are the king of evolving so you gave us some advice. ‘Alright, let’s do it.’ I talked to Quen and came up with some ideas. We got this whole biker thing going on. We really wanted to show us. Two New York dudes with an attitude. We’re still Private Party, but be more authentic. We wanted to show a real authentic side. The party stuff was kind of played out. It has a shelf life,” Zay said. [H/T Fightful.com]

Quen on the other hand, initially did not agree with the advice Chris Jericho gave Private Party.

“I disagreed a little bit because for me, we didn’t put our all into it. For me. I didn’t put my all into Shots. Then, I was out for a year, and he was still doing it for a year, so I had to think from perspective. I would have been tired of it, especially it not getting over. Three people are doing shots,” Marq Quen said.

Private Party highlight what Matt Hardy taught them

Private Party recently sat down with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard and spoke about the biggest thing they learned from their time with Matt Hardy. Zay said the most important thing Hardy taught them was to have fun and to remember that pro wrestling business is a business.

“That’s my guy. I think everybody knows that I am a Hardy Boyz mark,” Isiah Kassidy said. “Matt and Jeff. But I was specifically a lot more with Matt than Jeff. But I think the most important thing Matt taught me was, just to have fun. Have fun and remember this is a business. And I try to apply that to everything I do going forward. And also be more aggressive and yeah… Just show that we could fight.

“We could do all the cool stuff, show that we could also fight,” Kassidy continued. “There is so much [he taught us], I still talk to him to this day. I think the most important thing that stuck with me is just, ‘You could do all the high-flying stuff. Everybody’s seen it already. But you got to show people that you can fight. Show people that you can fight.’ And that’s about it. There’s so much I could say.”

As for Marq Quen, he wishes he had shown more aggression during his time with Matt Hardy.

“I’m gonna say, I wish I showed… When we was with Matt, I wish I showed more aggression,” Marq Quen admitted. “When I was with Matt, and it’s just like, AEW when it came up, it was just like, wow this whole thing is like a dream. And then us being with Matt it was just like, ‘Whoa… This is even…’ It’s proven that it is a dream.

“And Matt used to always say, ‘Show aggression. Show aggression, show aggression.’ And I felt like, we would turn it. But we didn’t turn it up to the ability that we could do,” he added. “So that’s one thing that I wish — I would say to myself that I would’ve improved when we was with Matt more. I wish I could show how I could whoop some ass. Rather than just do a 450 [Splash].”
