Mercedes Moné: Using Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ Forced Me To Come Out Of My Shell And Act

Mercedes Moné had to come out of her shell after being forced to use Rebecca Black’s Friday as her entrance music.

The TBS Champion wrote about her early career in her latest newsletter and explained her struggles finding the right entrance music. She revealed that when she started her career she had no idea what the right kind of walkout music she should have.

Mercedes Moné went on to explain how promoters in Chaotic Wrestling chose the 2011 hit “Friday” as her entrance music. This was something that she was dreading. However, the tune forced Mercedes Moné out of her shell and taught her to act as a wrestler in the ring.

“The right entrance music can literally make a talent’s career. Kev, Cousin Rocco, and I went to great lengths to write my current entrance song, CEO, for that reason. Within seconds of the first time CEO played, the fans were chanting along with the song. That’s when you know you have a good entrance song. However, when I started, I didn’t know what entrance music to come out to. I didn’t even know who I was as a person. Let alone a character. I didn’t know if I was black or white even. Until I realized I was a little bit of everything, I left my music up to the Indy promoters.”

“Because I had no clue over what song to come out to, the promoters at Chaotic had me come out to ‘Friday’ by Rebecca Black. Since the song was big and the matches were on Friday, it made some sense. BUT I DREADED IT! Cringe. But you know what? It helped me because it forced me to ‘act’, play along and to come out of my shell. So, as always, I am grateful for the experience, but definitely not a Moné Memory I want to repeat. Nothing but love for Rebecca Black, and here’s to hoping she made tons of Moné off the song. Just not the first on my CEO playlist.”
