As with The Rock‘s in-ring persona, an IMAX screen is seemingly larger than life.
This week marks the release of the Christmas action-adventure Red One, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The film itself will be available for viewing on standard movie screens, as well as 4DX and IMAX. In a new video posted to the Twitter account, Johnson spoke about his previous experience with the IMAX screen, specifically when watching the 2023 hit movie Oppenheimer.
“With Red One, our intention was to make a movie that you can enjoy on the biggest screen possible. Legitimately the biggest screens possible, well, they’re IMAX. I was midway through shooting Red One. I had an opportunity to go watch Oppenheimer, and I watched it in the IMAX theater where Christopher Nolan watches and screens his movie, him and Emma, his wife. I even asked, ‘Let me sit where Chris is sitting,’ so they said Chris sits here to enjoy the movie. So I sat where Chris sat. I watched Oppenheimer, it was amazing. But I was thinking, ‘Holy s***, this thing, Red One on this screen with this technology can be game over.’
“I remember texting [director] Jake [Kasdan] and I sent him a picture first of my bare chest, and then I sent him a picture of the screen. We just had a great conversation afterwards about just how cool it’s going to be. It’s going to be very cool.”
What is Red One about?
In Red One, Johnson portrays the North Pole’s Head of Security, who is tasked with saving Christmas when Santa Claus (aka Red One) is kidnapped. To do this, Johnson must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter, played by Chris Evans.
Red One officially hits theaters on November 15, 2024.
