AEW Dynamite results
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with tag team action as Christian Cage teams up with Hangman Page to take on Jay White and Juice Robinson.
Christian Cage and Hangman Page (w/ The Patriarchy) vs. Jay White and Juice Robinson
- The finish of the match saw Kip Sabian strike Juice Robinson with Cage’s metal framed contract. This led to Hangman Page hitting Deadeye on Robinson to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: Christian Cage and Hangman Page
Grade: B+
Very fun opener. Of all the people who could take the pinfall Juice Robinson was the most logical choice. It will be interesting if White can get another pay-per-view win over Hangman later this month at Full Gear.
Mercedes Moné and Kamille are backstage with Renee Paquette. Moné denied that they tried to run over Kris Statlander last week and blamed it on Kamille’s inability to drive. Kris Statlander shows up and starts brawling with Moné in the hallway. Kamille does very little to prevent it as Statlander drives Moné through a nearby wall.
Will Ospreay calls out Kyle Fletcher
Tony Schiavone is in the ring and brings out Will Ospreay. Ospreay says there’s a lot of questions he needs answers for and he calls out Kyle Fletcher to the ring. Kyle Fletcher comes out onto the stage by himself and says he came out by himself to prove that he’s not a coward. Fletcher says if Ospreay lays a finger on him The Don Callis Family will come out and attack to put him back on the shelf.
Ospreay says he knows Fletcher didn’t come alone and asks him to turn over the screwdriver. Fletcher tosses it over to him and Ospreay chucks it to the outside of the ring. Ospreay says Fletcher knows everything about him and it frightens him, he wants answers.
Fletcher says Ospreay wants to take credit for his success and says Don Callis opened his eyes to the truth. Fletcher says Ospreay is selfish and a hypocrite and says he only did what Ospreay would’ve done in the same situation pointing out examples of Okada and Omega.
Ospreay calls him out on what he said and asks him if he’s his own man or just a Ospreay clone. Ospreay runs down everything he had done in his career before he turned on Okada and Omega and wants to know what Fletcher has done on his own.
A brawl leads to our next match on AEW Dynamite
Fletcher says he’s going to surpass Ospreay and challenges him to a match at Full Gear. Ospreay says Fletcher wants his five minutes of fame and says he’s Mr. Pay-Per-View. Ospreay accepts the challenge. Fletcher says at Full Gear he’s not coming for a piece, he’s coming for everything. Lance Archer and Brian Cage show up but Ospreay has Powerhouse Hobbs and Mark Davis. All six men brawl.
Falls Count Anywhere: Roderick Strong vs. Lance Archer
- The finish of the match saw Roderick Strong hit Lance Archer with the running knee over the barricade to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Roderick Strong
Strong will now face MJF at Full Gear. The match will become a three-way if Adam Cole defeats Konosuke Takeshita later tonight. Speaking of which, Takeshita attacks Strong from behind which brings out Adam Cole… that match is underway now!
Grade: A-
This was a very fun brawl. The Undisputed Kingdom and The Don Callis Family got involved which eventually led to Strong picking up the win. I can’t help but feel like Cole is going to lose to Takeshita and they’re going to delay the match between him and MJF. That match is happening now so we’ll know soon enough.
Adam Cole vs. Konosuke Takeshita
- The finish of the match saw Konosuke Takeshita with the Dynamite Diamond Ring to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Konosuke Takeshita
MJF is shown back at his house laughing that Takeshita defeated Cole. Strong hits the ring to try and get revenge on Takeshita, but is quickly overwhelmed. Kyle O’Reilly hits the ring to save the day and Takeshita escapes to the stage where he’s attacked by Ricochet.
Back in the ring, Cole offers to shake O’Reilly’s hand, but O’Reilly walks away instead.
Grade: A
As I said in my previous match review, I expected Cole to lose that match and I was right. The match was really great and it’s fantastic to see Cole regularly competing for AEW once again. The aftermath really set the stage for a lot of things between Takeshita and Ricochet and Cole and O’Reilly. Perhaps both of these will be matches at Full Gear? We’ll find out soon enough.
The Hurt Syndicate is backstage with Renee Paquette. MVP says Bobby Lashley is one of the most decorated champions in the history of this sport and asks him how it feels that he might end Swerve Strickland’s career at Full Gear. Bobby Lashley says Swerve is dangerous to everyone but him, he says he’ll hurt Swerve at Full Gear.
The Death Riders take over Dynamite
The Death Riders are on the stage and attack JD Drake with a steel chair. Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir come through the crowd. Jon Moxley says he’s been thinking about Orange Cassidy a lot these past few days and says he’s been playing the game very well. Moxley says Chuck Taylor is drinking through a straw because he couldn’t save him. Mox says Wheeler Yuta is his because he couldn’t save him, and he’s still being cool with his hands in his pockets, his eyes on the prize.
Moxley says he needs to make an example of Orange Cassidy at Full Gear. Mox says he’s going to brutalize Cassidy and stomp his face into hamburger meat. Moxley says everyone will see that and they will ruin and hide and the Death Riders will continue to do whatever the hell they want because they have the power.
Orange Cassidy comes out onto the stage, and he’s joined by Mark Briscoe and Rocky Romero. Cassidy says he agrees with Moxley and he believes he’s going to do everything he says he’s going to do. Cassidy says he holds the symbol of AEW and everything professional wrestling can be inside of his suitcase. Orange says they can brawl anywhere, but the only way to become AEW World Champion is to wrestle in the ring.
Orange Cassidy challenges Wheeler Yuta to a match next week
Cassidy says they will wrestle at Full Gear and he will take the power back. Cassidy says there still a few pawns he needs to get rid of and calls out Wheeler Yuta to a match this week. Orange says next week he’s going to remove the pawn so he can get to the king. Moxley accepts the challenge for Yuta and says he has a message for everyone who wants what he’s got… abandon all hope. The Death Riders leave through the crowd but are dived on by Darby Allin. Cassidy, Briscoe, and Romero join in and get the better of The Death Riders.
Shafir takes Moxley and gets him out of the brawl. The two of them leave the building and Castagnoli joins them. They try to leave without Wheeler Yuta but Darby Allin dives in the truck stops their escape. Castagnoli attacks Allin and slams him into the metal arena doors. This gives Yuta enough time to show up and The Death Riders leave. Allin is up and screams to Castagnoli that he’s still standing.
The Learning Tree is backstage with Renee Paquette. Chris Jericho accepts the challenge from Tomohiro Ishii to face him in two weeks on AEW Dynamite for the Ring of Honor World Championship.
Britt Baker vs. Penelope Ford
- The finish of the match saw Penelope Ford lock Britt Baker in the Muta Lock, but Baker reverses it into the Lockjaw to win the match via submission.
Winner: Britt Baker
After the match, Serena Deeb comes out on the stage and stares down Baker.
Grade: B-
It’s nice to see Britt Baker back and healthy. I enjoyed the finish of the Muta Lock into the Lockjaw. Another match between Baker and Deeb should be a good one when it takes place.
Mina Shirakawa will be in action this Saturday on Collision
Mina Shirakawa is backstage with Renee Paquette. They are interrupted by Harley Cameron and they set up a match between them on Collision this Saturday night like only they can. You can check out how this all went down in the embedded post below.
Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana) vs. Lio Rush
- The finish of the match saw Swerve Strickland hit Lio Rush with Big Pressure to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Swerve Strickland
After the match, Strickland gets on the microphone and says now that he’s back everyone wants to come for the baddest man in AEW. Strickland says Rush and Benjamin both tried to do it and failed, and he needs to remind people whose house it is. Strickland says he wants to fight Lashley tonight and calls him out.
Bobby Lashley and MVP come out on the stage. MVP says if Swerve wants to fight all he has to do is ask. MVP says they like him a lot and they recruited him because he has so much untapped potential. Porter says one of the lessons he was trying to teach him is there is strength in numbers and he’s gonna learn that tonight. Shelton Benjamin attacks Strickland from behind and Bobby Lashley joins in on the attack.
MVP chokes Prince Nana with his cane while Lashley and Benjamin take out Strickland. Lashley locks on the Full Nelson and Swerve passes out.
Grade: A+
Swerve Strickland and Lio Rush had a phenomenal match. I could watch those two work every week and would probably never get bored. The interactions between Strickland and The Hurt Syndicate after the match put things over the top for me. This was perfect. I’m very excited for this matchup at Full Gear.
What’s next for Jamie Hayter?
Jamie Hayter is backstage with Renee Paquette. Hayter says she returned to AEW to right the wrongs, but for right now she thinks she’s coming after one thing. Her promo is interrupted by another Julia Hart segment that follows up the one from Collision. Brody King calls her on the phone and tells her that it’s time to come home.
The AEW World Tag Team Champions Private Party come out to watch the main event from the stage.
Full Gear Contender’s Series: FTR vs. Kings of the Black Throne
- The finish of the match saw Brody King lock Dax Harwood in a sleeper hold. Harwood passes out and the referee call for the match.
Winners: Kings of the Black Throne
Grade: A+
The two tag teams shake hands in mutual respect as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
AEW Dynamite Review:
Wow! What a great episode of AEW Dynamite tonight. This show flowed together beautifully and I couldn’t be happier with this show. A lot of great build took place for Full Gear and we got a lot of really great matches too. As a wrestling fan I really can’t ask for more than what I got tonight.
