Low Ki pitched for him to be a “bad Rey Mysterio Clone” for a feud in WWE.
The controversial star had a short stint in the WWE between 2008 and 2010. He was a part of the NXT game show in its second season. He infamously mentioned TNA in a promo segment, which greatly annoyed Michael Cole on commentary.
Low Ki recently appeared on on Thats Wrestling! where he discussed a pitch he made for a rivalry with Rey Mysterio (H/T to Fightful for the transcription). The former ROH star wanted to be a clone of Rey Mysterio, getting the legend fired. Additionally, he would take his place before a WrestleMania mask vs mask match.
“I tried to maximize every opportunity I had in WWE, every match after I won NXT. I always came back with a script of where to go next, and I incorporated everything that they had tried to throw at me. They had me losing all of my matches.” Low Ki said. “They had me in throwaway matches that had no advancement potential. They were just bare matches, so I was still having decent matches with everybody, but I wasn’t excelling. So every match that I had on SmackDown, I wrote into a script and documented everything. In order to use everything that they threw at me to develop into me going into the Survivor Series.”
“Then from the Survivor Series leading into WrestleMania, where I would end up getting Rey Mysterio fired and end up becoming a bad Rey Mysterio clone. It would have led to Rey Mysterio vs. Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania, mask vs. mask, because I can match him in almost everything that he does physically. So I actually came back with better ideas than the own writing team.”
Low Ki Would Have Unmasked After The Match With Rey Mysterio
Low Ki continued, explaining how the story would have tied in with the other storylines in WWE, which Michael Hayes appreciated. He added that he would be unmasked after the bout, allowing the Low Ki character to feature in WWE from that point onwards to continue the feud, which would add another lay to the rivalry.
“Rey actually hooked up a conference call between he and I and Michael Hayes. I made the pitch with all the information that incorporated everyone from John Morrison to [Alberto] Del Rio to the dramatic effect of why I aligned with Del Rio to take Rey out and get him fired, which ultimately led to the exposure of why all of this has happened. Michael Hayes said, ‘Wow, that was really well thought out. Thank you for doing that.'”
“We had a money match potential of Rey vs. Rey. You just you take the mask off of me at WrestleMania, and now who do you have? It’s either Kaval or Low Ki. Low Ki would have fit better as far as, ‘Holy shit, that’s him.’ We would have had mileage with Low Ki, as a heel, versus Rey Mysterio as a babyface, and run that bitch for another year.”
