The Rock Confirms He Peed In Bottles And Was Late To Set, But On-Set Controversy Was Overblown

The Rock admits that he pees in bottles while on set, but the rest of what you might have heard has been exaggerated.

The Rock was profiled by Zach Baron for GQ. The article highlighted his successful 2024, as he was named GQ’s Entertainer of the Year. In one highlight, he was asked about The Wrap‘s previous report, in which they reported that he peed in a bottle while working on set for Red One to save time and that he was often several hours late.

In the GQ profile, The Rock confirmed that he peed in bottles; he said, “Yeah. That happens.”

As for the part about being late, The Rock said, “Yeah, that happens too. “But not that amount, by the way. That was a bananas amount. That’s crazy. Ridiculous. I’ve said a thousand times: ‘Hey, I’m here. Come and ask me. And I’ll tell you the truth.’ ”

GQ also included a quote from Chris Evans, The Rock’s costar on Red One, and he dismissed the description of The Rock in The Wrap‘s report.

“In terms of the guy that I saw, compared to some of the things I’ve seen on other movies with other actors who are not only not conscious of other people’s time and efforts, but they’re unpredictable?” Evans said. “I found Dwayne to be—we all know exactly what he’s going to do when he’s going to do it.”

Earlier this year, The Wrap reported Johnson was at the center of several time management related issues. Amazon MGM, distributor of Red One, issued a statement denying that there were issues caused by Johnson’s lateness.

“Dwayne Johnson and Seven Bucks have been incredible partners on ‘Red One’—a film that audiences of all ages are going to love this holiday season,” the spokesperson said. “Our testing has been very strong — the reaction from CinemaCon speaks for itself — and we couldn’t have made it without Dwayne’s constant work and support. Any reporting that implies that we got to this point with him showing up seven-eight hours late to set is both ridiculous and false.”
