Matthew Justice plans on making a big statement in his next match for MLW.
The MLW star spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard ahead of his National Openweight Championship match against Bad Dude Tito at Lucha Apocalypto. Justice and Tito don’t have too much history with each other aside from a tag team bar fight at a Circle 6 event in Los Angeles. Now, Tito picked a fight with Justice in MLW, and he’s happy to silence his doubters once more in Chicago.
“It’s a statement. The match [itself, and] winning the title. First off, the reason it’s happening is because Tito wanted to start something with me in the first place, for no reason. If there’s one thing that anyone knows about me is I love fighting,” Justice explained. “Doesn’t matter what the circumstances are. I love fighting. I love doing crazy shit. And I think that’s — people know me for doing crazy things and I’m a lot more than just a crazy guy. I’m one of the best at what I do. I’ve been wrestling for so long, it’s my life journey. So, it’s just another thing to add to my resume. So, I can silence anybody that ever wants to doubt me about anything in wrestling.”
Matthew Justice wants to be a Triple Crown Champion in MLW
Justice has been wrestling for almost 19 years, and has been competing in MLW for the past two. Fightful recently reported that Justice signed a multi-year contract with the promotion, which he confirmed took place in September. He spoke about his experience working for the company, praising a company that challenges him to step things up and test himself as a wrestler.
“I signed with MLW just last month. Well, it was two months. I signed in September,” Matthew Justice said. “It’s pretty wild. Because I remember watching MLW when it started in what, 2002? And I was in middle school watching it on syndicated TV. And then to think that here I am, 22 years later, wrestling for them. That’s pretty cool. And just as a wrestler, as a businessman, working with Court Bauer has been great. Everyone else at MLW too, I love working with the producers like Alex Greenfield, everyone there.
“I’m a journeyman. I’ve been everywhere. I have tons of experience but, it just takes me to a whole another level beyond what I’ve experienced before in wrestling, what they are giving me at MLW. It’s kind of forcing me to really put myself to the flame even more than I have my whole life to be better and to continue rising,” Justice explained. “I’ve already been an MLW Tag Team Champion with [1 Called Manders]. And Saturday, I have the chance to add the National Openweight title to my resume as well. And that’s two of the three major titles in MLW. I’d love to become a Triple Crown Champion that’s something that we live on in history forever.”
MLW doesn’t hold back
Pro wrestling has often saved big-time matches for “cornerstone” events in a respective company’s schedules. However, MLW does not drag things out and presents marquee matches each month, telling engaging stories that are easy to follow. This is something that appeals to Justice, who pointed to Saturday’s card as a great example of what the appeal of MLW is.
“I like that MLW has stories. Especially more than the independent level. But I like that they are not the long drawn out stories. You get the fights. You don’t have to wait. It’s pretty straightforward. And they have a great mix. It really is a great hybrid blend of every style of wrestling. I mean, look at the card for Saturday. It’s like some of the best Luchadors in the world. Some of the crazy, violent brawlers in the world. It’s awesome man!”
MLW Lucha Apocalypto takes place on Saturday, November 9 at a sold-out Cicero Stadium in Chicago. Watch our full interview with Matthew Justice below:
