Tony D’Angelo faced ECW veteran Nunzio on the November 6 episode of WWE NXT, which was held at the 2300 Arena.
During Tuesday’s episode of NXT, D’Angelo and his family were met by former ECW star Nunzio and his associate, Tony Mamaluke. Nunzio scolded D’Angelo for not picking up his calls and checking in with him. D’Angelo said he meant no disrespect, but Nunzio said he’s already felt the disrespect.
As a result, Mamaluke set up a match for Adriana Rizzo, where she’ll take on Nikita Lyons next week. As for D’Angelo, he’d have to face off against Nunzio for the title as a form of “tax” for disrespecting him.
D’Angelo went on to defeat Nunzio, pretty much manhandling Nunzio throughout. Toward the end, he missed a spear and got hit with a Scillian Slice. Luca Crusifino and Tony Mamaluke tried to get involved, handling D’Angelo and Nunzio a crowbar and a pair of brass knuckles, respectively, but D’Angelo instead ended things with a spinebuster to retain his title, and everyone hugged after.
Nunzio — real name James Maritato — was best known for his time in ECW, and as a part of the stable F.B.I. (Full Blooded Italians). He wrestled with the company for five years, before joining WWE in 2002 and staying with the company through 2008, and then on and off again in 2010-11.
