Arn Anderson Claims Goldberg’s Best Match Was Infamous Nitro Bout With William Regal

One of the most decorated professional wrestlers of all time is WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg. During his run in WCW, he had an undefeated streak of 173 straight wins to zero losses. That number’s legitimacy was up for debate, but there’s no denying the impact Goldberg had on the pro wrestling business.

Recently, one of the Four Horsemen, Arn Anderson shared his opinion on what he believes was Bill Goldberg’s best professional wrestling match. While speaking on a recent episode of the Ask Arn podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Arn Anderson shared that the former WWE Universal Champion’s best wrestling match was against former King of the Ring winner William Regal on an episode of WCW Nitro.

“I delivered instructions that I was given. For Regal to have taken all the grief that he has taken over the years about that match … this is my personal opinion: It’s the best match Goldberg’s ever had because it was one of the first contests that he ever had, where it was a 50-50 fight. When you’ve got 8 minutes or 9 minutes, whatever it was, you can’t just go out and slaughter a guy like William Regal for 9 minutes. You have to have a competitive match.” [H/T Wrestling INC.]

Anderson also mentioned that he had argued with Eric Bischoff about wanting both stars to have a competitive match and in the end, Bischoff agreed and both Goldberg and Regal had a competitive match.

“I passed this information, ‘Guys, have a hell of a match, have a competitive match,'” recalled Arn Anderson.

Regal has gone on record saying he was told to go have a competitive match. He gave Goldberg some openings to retaliate, but Goldberg, who’d worked brief squash matches to that point, was out of his element.

Goldberg was on a 2016 episode of the Steve Austin Show and said Regal wasn’t told to beat up on him and take advantage of a green wrestler. He claims it was a sign of resentment from Regal.

What do you think is the WWE Hall of Famer’s best wrestling match of all time?
