He highlights the courage of the young talent on AEW’s roster and calls them the future.

Cassidy says that they have no idea of the danger they are in, or how dangerous Jon Moxley is. He explains that he realized what he needed to do. Cassidy says that if Moxley has his way, there would be no AEW, as Jon Moxley never needed AEW. He says that he needs AEW, and he needs to stop this by cutting the head off the snake. Cassidy says he will do it by himself to make sure no one gets hurt. He challenges Moxley to a match for the AEW World Championship. Cassidy tells Moxley to let him know, as he’s not hard to find. He calls himself the next AEW World Champion.

Grade: A

This was a strong start to the show. Cassidy has become the face of AEW in some ways, and he is the perfect foil to this new version of Jon Moxley. They had a great feud last year, and with Moxley’s new persona, the story could be even stronger this time. Cassidy’s evolution into the reluctant hero has been well-done, too.

TBS Champion Mercedes Moné and Kamille are walking backstage, and they are asked about Kamille’s match against Statlander. Moné says Statlander doesn’t hold a candle to Kamille.

Adam Cole Returns To The Ring

Adam Cole vs. Buddy Matthews

Winner: Adam Cole

Cole grabs a microphone and says Matthews reminded him who the real Adam Cole is. He thanks Matthews, and he shakes his hand. The lights go out, and when they come back on, Malakai Black is standing in the ring, shaking Cole’s hand.

Grade: A

Cole had a strong performance in his first match in well over a year. This was a great showing for Matthews as well. The post-match angle was fun, and the prospect of seeing Cole face Black is an exciting possibility.

Backstage, Christopher Daniels is standing by with Private Party, and he gives them a pep talk ahead of their match with the Young Bucks. Daniels recalls how he and Frankie Kazarian lost to the Young Bucks. Isiaih Kassidy vows to win the titles tonight.

Kyle Fletcher Waits For Will Ospreay’s Response

Kyle Fletcher and Don Callis come to the stage. Fletcher says he is there to call out Ospreay. Nobody comes out. Mark Davis, Fletcher’s tag team partner, comes out. Davis says that Fletcher knows that Ospreay is laid up at home. He says that Fletcher has changed. Fletcher says that Callis has helped him see who Ospreay really is. He says that he’s sure that Ospreay forgot about Davis. Fletcher says he ensured that Davis would have a spot in the Don Callis Family.

Davis responds by saying that they had an empire, and Fletcher, and he destroyed it. Fletcher says that there will come a day when he has to make a hard decision, and he says he has no problem cutting the past loose.

Grade: B

Mark Davis’ return was a great surprise. His injury sparked Fletcher’s breakout singles run in the first place. His place in Fletcher’s feud with Ospreay was the elephant in the room, and it looks like we got an answer here, as this seemingly shut the door on Aussie Open getting back together for the time being.

Backstage, “Hangman” Adam Page comments on facing Jay White at AEW Full Gear. He discusses their feud and says there is no such thing as redemption. Instead, there were only wins, loses, and consequences. Page says he knows White will target his injured leg, but White doesn’t know what he will do to him. He says that he will leave White, and he will leave him behind.

Jon Moxley Responds

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, and Marina Shafir come to the ring. Moxley says that one day, Orange Cassidy will understand. He says that Cassidy thinks that he challenged him, but it was the other way around. Moxley said that he challenged Cassidy last week by attacking Chuck Taylor, as he cut out some of the distractions he was dealing with.

He says that he doesn’t want Cassidy to catch the disease that seemed to affect a lot of people in AEW, as people were happy with their paychecks. Moxley agrees to face Cassidy and says he will fight him “in the valley”, and he had better be prepared to die. He says that if Cassidy thinks he’s free from distractions, they should put that to the test.

The group turns on Wheeler Yuta, and Castagnoli wraps a chair around his neck. Cassidy runs in and tries to make the save, but the group outnumbers him. They gang up on Cassidy, but the Dark Order makes the save.

Moxley’s group still gains the upper hand. The beatdown continues, and PAC wraps a chair around Cassidy’s neck. Darby Allin comes down from the rafters and takes the fight to Castagnoli.

They keep fighting, and more members of the locker room come out. The Young Bucks come out after Private Party and others joined the fight.

Grade: B

Moxley’s response was good for what it was, and he’s doing a good job of conveying how important his mission to reshape AEW is to him. The teased turn on Yuta was unexpected, and it shows that Moxley will do whatever it takes. Cassidy looked a little weak by making the save when he was so heavily outnumbered. Darby Allin coming down from the rafters was fun, and it set up a tag team match for next week.

Young Bucks Defend The Gold

AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) (c) vs. Private Party

Matthew and Isiah start the match and feel each other out. The Young Bucks double-team Kassidy and take control. Private Party rallies, and Kassidy hits a dive to the outside. Winners and new AEW World Tag Team Champions: Private Party

Grade: B+

The match was very good, and fans have been rallying around Private Party, so the pop for the win made it even more special. This got a little overbooked, especially with Kazuchika Okada’s interference. Plus, Private Party’s win was undercut by the fact that they lost to the Young Bucks just weeks ago. Still, their victory could be a shot in the arm for the tag team divison.

Backstage, Penelope Ford and Jamie Hayter have a heated confrontation ahead of their match next week.

ROH World Champion Chris Jericho and The Learning Tree come out, and Jericho hypes up his win last week. He takes another shot at Mark Briscoe by bringing up his late brother, Jay. Winner: Kris Statlander

Moné attacks Statlander from behind and tells Kamille to go to the back. She grabs Statlander’s head and talks some trash.

Grade: C+

Given the buildup, this one fell somewhat flat, and it didn’t get enough time. Kamille taking a clean loss was surprising as well. Moné scolding Kamille after the match teased some dissension between the two, while the attack continued to set up a title match between Mercedes and Kris.

Backstage, Christian Cage extends an olive branch to HOOK for next week, saying that he wants to explain himself.

Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly, and Tomohiro Ishii are interviewed backstage. Briscoe says he will make Chris Jericho pay for bringing up Jay Briscoe leaving. Kyle O’Reilly pitches a Fight Without Honor next week.

They also attack Prince Nana. Lashley puts Strickland in the Hurt Lock. They attack officials that try to get involved. MVP says “Guess who’s back in business” as he stands tall with Lashley and Benjamin.

Grade: A+

The match was superb, as Shelton Benjamin has impressed since he arrived in AEW. Strickland has not missed a beat since his last match back at AEW All Out. It was easy to predict Lashley’s debut, as his arrival has been expected for months. Still, it was done well, and the Hurt Business reunion was a crowd-pleasing way to end the show.

AEW Dynamite Review:

Overall, “Fright Night Dynamite” was a fun show. Adam Cole’s in-ring return was a solid match and a feel-good moment, Orange Cassidy’s promo continued his ascension to the main event, and the tag title match was a buzzworthy moment as well. Lashley’s debut will dominate the headlines, and he is a significant addition, given his star power. Benjamin has been built up well so far, and with Lashley joining him, it’ll be exciting to see what’s next for the Hurt Syndicate.
