TNA considered AJ Styles for the TNA Hall of Fame this year, according to a new report.
Rhino and Bob Ryder became the latest inductees into the TNA Hall of Fame at TNA Bound for Glory on October 26. AJ Styles and other names from TNA’s past appeared in video packages that honored them. However, Styles was considered to be inducted himself.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports thar AJ Styles and Monty Brown were considered, and the door is not closed for a future induction.
Sapp writes that the possibility of Styles being inducted was “broached” with WWE, who passed on the inquiry. TNA sources shared their belief that it was due to Styles’ injury or active storyline. Additionally, there were hopes that Styles might be potentially open to wrestling in TNA. However, it’s unclear whether that was discussed.
Update: Styles wrote on social media that he made the decision not to go into the TNA Hall of Fame because he did not want to go into any Hall of Fame as long as he was still active. He reiterated that it was his choice, not WWE’s.
Styles suffered an apparent injury in his return to WWE television on the October 4 episode of WWE SmackDown. There is currently no word on when he will return to the ring.
