The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) won the gold in just their third WWE match on WWE SmackDown.
After debuting on the October 18 episode of WWE SmackDown with a win over Los Garza and A-Town Down Under, they faced #DIY in a Number One Contender’s Match on the October 25 episode of WWE SmackDown. The Motor City Machine Guns emerged victorious, and they were confronted by The Bloodline.
Solo Sikoa offered to give the Motor City Machine Guns a spot then and there, and they accepted. Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa defended the titles, and the match broke down in chaos when The Bloodline interfered, and Jimmy Uso and Roman Reigns brawled with them. Jey Uso then came out and attacked the champions. Sabin and Shelley then scored the victory and won the titles.
The loss ended The Bloodline’s reign at 84 days. Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga won the gold by beating #DIY on the August 2 episode of WWE SmackDown. Sikoa ordered Fatu to give his title to Tonga Loa on the August 23 episode.
Shelley and Sabin were staples of TNA’s tag team division for years, and they won the titles there three times. They have also held tag team titles in ROH, GCW, NJPW, and other promotions.
