Tony D’Angelo wants to separate from the pack.
The NXT North American Champion recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about his ascent in WWE. D’Angelo has been one of the performers who has greatly benefitted from the NXT brand, including many of his promos and segments taking place outside of the confines of the WWE Performance Center. D’Angelo believes having that freedom gives him an advantage and makes him stand out.

“Absolutely. I think that’s what separates me from the group. It makes me different because of who I am and what [The Family is] about. It allows us to do different things than the typical, ‘In front of some door. Or in the PC or in the parking lot.’ Not that that’s bad,” D’Angelo clarified. “But, I just want to bring something different and separate myself. So, I think, like you said, it allows more character growth, especially me as Tony D’Angelo. I think it helps explain and dive deeper into what part of being the D’Angelo family really means. So, I think it’s great.”
Tony D’Angelo welcomes WWE talent in NXT
NXT has benefitted from appearances by WWE main roster stars in recent weeks, including CM Punk and Randy Orton on the first two weeks of NXT’s move to The CW. Tony D’Angelo was asked if there was a specific WWE Superstar he’d like to see visit NXT, perhaps not even for a match, but just a chance to learn from them.
“Absolutely. All the top guys in SmackDown and Raw. I would love to have them come down, pick their brain, and see what they think about what’s going on in NXT. I think as far as feuding with, I could give… The classic answer will be, Roman and Cody. Cuz, they are the upper echelon. But, I would love to pick their brain,” D’Angelo said. “I have talked to CM Punk. I’ve actually talked to Cody Rhodes a little bit. He’s a nice guy.”
D’Angelo said that nobody from the main roster has ever really shut him down or refused to give him advice. He credited Seth Rollins for giving him feedback too, adding that he believes most WWE Superstars are willing to help because they want the business to flourish.
“They want to help bring up the next crop of talent. So, I would love for any of them to come down,” D’Angelo noted. “Even the guys who aren’t wrestling, like an Undertaker or whoever. I would like to have them down and pick their brain. Want to feud? We can feud. You know? I am open to it.”
Tony D’Angelo had a successful title defense at Halloween Havoc against Oba Femi in a Tables, Ladders and Scares match. NXT will head to Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena next week, potentially giving D’Angelo another chance to stand out.
