Nic Nemeth Explains How He Perseveres In Life

Nic Nemeth dishes out insightful life advice ahead of his title defense this weekend at Bound For Glory.

TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth participated in today’s Bound For Glory Press Conference. When asked how he perseveres on a day-to-day basis from a college student, Nemeth spoke from his own college experience and how he’s been able to persevere in life.

“I went into Kent State University, which is a couple hours that way, hoping to be something like that, where I could be involved in marketing and arts and everything you can imagine. And I spread myself thin over so many different things,” Nic Nemeth said. “So when it comes to college students, if you name a major when you walk in that freshman year, you don’t have to stick to it. You’re not failing anybody. You’re not letting anyone down.

“I walked in with a philosophy major, and I switched that halfway through my freshman year to political science and pre-law, and that’s something that I genuinely loved and looked into so much. So don’t freak out about that. If you take some classes that you’re not going to end up needing for those core numbers, or any of those pieces, don’t worry about it.

Life advice from Nic Nemeth

“If you fail a class and you genuinely tried, you weren’t drunk and didn’t show up. And If you genuinely tried and failed a class, try again, or possibly a different professor. That happened to me too. You had to have a certain core amount to see on the wrestling team, you had to have 12 credits or 15 I had. And I worked really hard at this class, and this business was numbers, and I just couldn’t get the hang of it.

“I tried it again with a second teacher, and it ended up being just a little bit better. I got a C, I weaseled by, and that’s fine. And it wasn’t my major, my major was political science, and the law classes, mostly A’s no big deal. But when it comes to being frustrated and you don’t know what the hell is going on. You think it might be World War Three happening outside. You don’t know what you’re gonna do with your life, you don’t have to know. It’s so great.

“Show up and give yourself a chance, no matter what”

“And every year, if you change your major, because you change mentally, that’s great too. You’re supposed to change. So my perseverance, I’ve been very lucky. I switched that major six months in, stuck with it, and actually used it for some things. I’m still very interested in politics and law. I live every day going through different legal agreements and things.

“But the perseverance part is I made sure, much like in class, much like in life, like the gym, paying attention to the news, being out, doing something every single day. I told myself, if I go to class every day, I should be able to get a C even if I’m in there doodling or reading a different book, be there every day. So show up. It’s just like going to the gym, just like going on a date. It’s just like meeting somebody. Show up and give yourself a chance, no matter what.”
