Shelton Benjamin could have the best run of his career in AEW, at least according to Jim Ross.
The former WWE star recently signed for AEW, joining former manager MVP in the promotion. He debuted with a dominant win over Lio Rush, as the seeds were planted for reunion with Bobby Lashley in the near future.
Jim Ross recently spoke on his Grillin Jr podcast (H/T to WrestlingInc for the transcription), where he relayed his excitement about Shelton Benjamin joining.
The WWE Hall of Famer previously explained how he’d book Shelton Benjamin in AEW, and thinks the best is yet to come from the former United States Champion.
He explained how Benjamin “blew everybody’s a** away” in OVW, when he was in training with stars like Randy Orton, John Cena, Batista and Brock Lesnar. Jim Ross then claimed the best was yet to come for Shelton Benjamin, even at 49 years old.
“I think as far as Shelton Benjamin is concerned, the best is yet to come there as well.”
Shelton Benjamin: I Signed With AEW Because They Have The Biggest Audience Outside Of WWE
Shelton Benjamin made the jump to AEW because they have the biggest audience, apart from WWE.
Speaking on Gabby AF, he discussed signing with AEW. He had to chance to join TNA, but chose AEW as his home for the foreseeable future.
“I really thought long and hard about where I wanted to go,” Benjamin said. “IMPACT was a very tempting place to go, but it just boils down to, I want the biggest possible audience. Outside of WWE, there’s no one bigger than AEW. So for me, I don’t have as much time as a lot of guys, as far as in-ring and things like that.
“Don’t get me wrong, not that I’m going to retire any time soon, but for the time I have left, I want to reach the biggest possible audience I can. What better place than AEW? There is no better place. That’s where the best wrestle. They have so many studs in that company, I’m amazed.”
