Cody Rhodes would face Jake Roberts in the ring if he could face anybody from history.
The WWE Hall of Famer was initially brought into AEW to feud with Cody Rhodes. Jake “The Snake” debuted in AEW in March 2020, where he confronted Cody Rhodes in the ring following his loss to MJF at Revolution.
Roberts went on to manage Lance Archer, who battled Rhodes for the right to become the first-ever TNT Champion at Double or Nothing 2020.
Cody Rhodes spoke with News 19 WLTX, and was asked who he would face, past or present, if he could step into the ring with one person from wrestling history.
He started by noting how polarizing a question this will be for the online fans. He added how his answer changes on a day-to-day basis.
However, he settled on a match with Jake “The Snake” Roberts. He noted his sinister, whispering promos in the WWE as being ahead of their time, calling him “psychologically menacing”.
This would fit well against the ultra-babyface version of Cody Rhodes we see in WWE. However, he added that his answer would probably change tomorrow, getting laughs from the hosts.
“So, I always change my answer frequently, and then people online—this is a polarizing subject. So, I always say the answer is going to change a lot. But I had recently started thinking about how I am as a wrestler, as a character, and how I fit into WWE.
“I’d really like to get in there with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. When Jake was a bad guy, he was just psychologically menacing and different. He wasn’t yelling; it wasn’t the big, bombastic ’80s promos. He was really sinister, like ahead of his time. But yeah, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. It’ll probably change by tomorrow.”
