Sting misses the colorful characters that were in wrestling during his heyday.
Before retiring earlier this year, Sting was one of the last wrestlers from a bygone era. He began his career in the 1980s, wrestling alongside legends like Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior.
He worked throughout the 1980s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s, something that very few wrestlers can boast. Having worked in WCW, NJPW, TNA, WWE and AEW, he has wrestled an unparalleled variety of opponents in Sting’s legendary career.
However, there is something Sting misses from when he started wrestling.
Sting spoke with Kayfabe Friends at the Cauliflower Alley Club, where he was asked what he misses from when he started in the business.
The Icon noted that the characters were more “colorful” back then, with Sting accusing the current generation of being more “grey”.
“When I began, I learned from characters like Macho Man Randy Savage, who was completely over the top with his character. So, I mean, I did add some of that, and I liked it. I loved the flamboyancy, all the color, and, you know, I miss some of that now.” Sting said.
Over the years, it seems like a lot of the guys have just turned kind of gray. Yeah, everybody just kind of has the same kind of color, you know? And it’s not just their gear or the colors they wear, but their personas and personalities. Everybody just kind of seems the same.”
“When I first got into the business, it was good guys and bad guys, babyfaces and heels, right? And, man, I think that really makes a difference. I really do.” Sting added, finally.
