The Briscoes’ careers could have been quite different, according to Mark Briscoe.
Mark and Jay Briscoe were top stars in ROH for years, and they ultimately held the ROH World Tag Team Championship 13 times. They also wrestled for NJPW and TNA, among other companies. Though they tried out for WWE, they never got the chance to wrestle there. However, the brothers were nearly part of one of the most memorable stables in WWE history.
Speaking with AIPT Comics, Mark Briscoe said that there were plans for the duo to debut with the Wyatt Family in July 2013.
“We were going to debut with the Wyatt Family,” Briscoe said.
Briscoe also noted that he and Jay Briscoe learned and grew from the experience as they continued their careers. The article notes that Jay’s past homophobic comments, which he repeatedly apologized for, “scuttled” the plans for their debut.
The Briscoes re-signed with ROH in 2015 despite reportedly receiving an NXT offer. Jay tragically passed away in January 2023.
At AEW WrestleDream, Mark Briscoe defeated Chris Jericho to retain the ROH World Championship.
