Trick Williams says John Cena taught him an important lesson.
16-time world champion John Cena made a special appearance on the October 10, 2023, episode of WWE NXT. A year later, Williams has won the NXT Championship twice. His on-screen progress echoes his overall growth, and at least part of it stems from Cena.
Speaking with Cameron Hawkings for Uncrowned, Trick Williams recalled a key piece of advice that Cena gave him. He detailed how Cena taught him how to listen and react.
“We’ve had multiple talks, but I would say the most important thing I’ve learned from him is being able to listen and perform at the same time,” Trick Williams said. “He knows what every sound means, what every sound means that he should be, how he should respond and react to everything. … But just being able to listen and react accordingly to what the people are giving you, I think, is the most [important] thing that I’ve ever heard.”
Trick Williams On Potential Call-Up
Williams recently discussed a potential call-up to the main roster. He commented on the possibility while Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet.
“I think about it all the time, but I’m happy where my feet are,” he said. “I mean, NXT is on fire right now, arguably one of the better times NXT has ever seen. So with that, I’m proud to be here. I’m proud to be the face of NXT. Why are we going to CW? Why we got the biggest TV deal NXT has ever gotten, why we’re doing this traveling and stuff now. I’m part of it, and it feels good to say, hey, we party something special here.”
