Eric Young is happy to see new generations of fans catching on to TNA Wrestling.
Young recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about what’s currently going on in TNA Wrestling. More specifically, Young said he wants more fans to start talking about all of the good things going on in the company right now, noting how many wrestlers like him choose to be there because it’s a great atmosphere.
“It’ll sound cliche but it’s the truth. This is my home. I could work wherever I want. I have lots of reasons to say that that I’m not going to go into. But it’s true,” Young said. “I choose to work there. I chose to leave WWE, I chose to come back to TNA. And I chose to stay there.”
Eric Young couldn’t be happier to be in TNA
Young said there were definitely times that he could have left, but he’s also put everything he has into TNA and he wants to see it survive. TNA saved Eric Young from “wrestling obscurity” and therefore, it will always be a special place for him.
“Seeing it thrive right now — pay-per-views being up, digital impressions being up, and subscriptions to the app. That’s going to be biased coming from me but it’s the truth. The crowds have been three, four times the size that we are used to. And I don’t think there’s a person walking away from any of these shows being like, ‘I wish it was this, I wish it was that. They could have done that, they could have done this.’ I think sometimes they are thinking that. But on the whole, people that are fans of the show and people that watch it, consume it, are realizing that there is something really special going on, and to be a part of that is an irreplaceable drug man. And I couldn’t be happier to be where I am right now.”
Eric Young says TNA is by wrestling fans, for wrestling fans
Eric Young believes the momentum will only continue for TNA, which is arguably one of the most consistent week-to-week shows in pro wrestling today.
“It’s a super consistent show in a world that is just not consistent. It is written for pro wrestling fans by pro wrestling fans. That’s what it is. We are not trying to be a television show. We are trying to be a professional wrestling show. And I think that shows. And it’s the ultimate variety show. There’s a little something for everybody. There’s spooky stuff and there’s funny stuff and you got Mike Bailey and guys in the X-Division having these insane matches. Great stories, great main events. Superstars like Nic Nemeth and the Hardys that can work wherever they want too. And they chose to come to TNA. Because they see it too.”
Young said those names could work anywhere, but they see TNA has something special right now. Fans will sometimes worry about ratings and viewership, but Young says they shouldn’t let that be a concern and just enjoy the show.
“I try not to concern myself with that other stuff because none of that should affect you as a wrestling fan. You should just enjoy what you enjoy and that is it. Watch it all. That’s what I do,” Eric Young said.
