Jack Perry will defend the gold at AEW WrestleDream.
On the October 2 episode of AEW Dynamite, TNT Champion Jack Perry was interviewed backstage. He was interrupted by Katsuyori Shibata, who challenged him to a title match at AEW WrestleDream. Perry told him he would think about it. He started to walk away, but he turned around and dropped Shibata with a cheap shot. Perry then told Shibata that he accepted his challenge.
Shibata crossed paths with Perry on the September 28 episode of AEW Collision. He made the save for Minoru Suzuki after the latter unsuccessfully answered Perry’s open challenge for a title match.
In recent weeks, Perry has defended the title against Lio Rush and Christopher Daniels, in addition to his win over Suzuki.
Shibata is a former ROH Pure Champion. He was previously one of NJPW’s top stars for several years; he held the IWGP Tag Team Championship and the NEVER Openweight Championship.
