JBL: John Cena Had The Hardest Role In Wrestling History

JBL thinks John Cena deserves to win his 17th World Championship.

The 16-time WWE Champion announced his retirement earlier this year. John Cena announced a 36 date tour for his retirement, which included matches at the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 41.

During this run, he will certainly try to break Ric Flair’s 16 world championship record. Both men are currently tied for the most reigns, and JBL thinks Cena should break it before retiring.

JBL recently spoke in a Live Q&A with Sportskeeda Wrestling. The WWE Hall of Famer admitted that he would love to see John Cena winning his 17th world title before he retires.

He noted that Cena had “the hardest role in wrestling history” when he took over from Steve Austin and The Rock as the face of the company following the Attitude Era.

“John Cena had the hardest role in wrestling history.” JBL said. “He followed the Attitude Era, where you could flip off your boss, drink beer on television, and women were out there wearing next to nothing—sometimes nothing. And he had to step into a PG to G-rated era and be the champion. I don’t know if anybody in the history of the business could have done that except for John Cena. It’s incredible what he did. Yeah, I’d love to see him win his 17th [world championship].”

JBL Talks About Potentially Managing MJF In AEW

With his recent move back into wrestling, JBL discussed potentially managing MJF in AEW.

JBL appeared on a Q&A session for Sportskeeda. The WWE Hall of Famer was asked if he would manage MJF. JBL revealed that he’s a big fan of the former AEW Champion, calling him “smart” and “sharp”.

“I don’t know, it’s a great question. I’m a big fan of MJF. I met him in England one time. And I’ve told this story a few times. I got to ride to the airport with him and spent part of the day with him because we were both at a signing. I’m a big fan of his—he’s a really smart and sharp guy, and I think he’s a great talent.”

“One thing I love about guys like him is the shape they get into. Look at Randy Orton right now; he’s changed his character by getting in incredible shape. MJF is in incredible shape right now, too, which tells me something. I have no idea about working or wrestling with him, but he’s in a different place now. Sounds like he’s about to be a movie star—he just got a role in Happy Gilmore or something.”
