Matt Taven Says Wardlow Is Out With A Knee Injury, Comments On Adam Cole’s Recovery

Matt Taven provides updates on Wardlow and Adam Cole amid their ongoing absences from AEW programming.

Wardlow last wrestled on the March 13 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he lost to Samoa Joe. Adam Cole has been sidelined with an injury since September 2023. Though he continued to make some appearances, he has been absent since AEW Double or Nothing.

Speaking on the Stick to Wrestling Podcast, Matt Taven was asked for an update on Wardlow.

“Wardlow’s out with a knee injury,” Taven said. “As a guy with plenty of knee injuries in the past, they can be tricky. You start to think they’re one thing, then you think they’re another, and then you think, ‘Oh, I can get away with doing this or that,’ and it seems to be more serious. So I think he’s just trying to figure out exactly what the best kind of treatment plan is to get him back on track with that knee.”

Matt Taven On Adam Cole

Matt Taven was also asked for an update on Adam Cole. He said that Cole had a serious ankle injury. Taven noted that everyone was trying to do what was best for their long-term health. Taven stated that you couldn’t rush coming back when dealing with serious injuries.

“Oh, Cole…here’s the funny thing, Cole won’t even be online for weeks at a time, and you’ll just go on Twitter and he’ll be trending,” he said. “Did something happen? It’s crazy that it’s been a year [since he got hurt], but again, he had a pretty serious ankle injury as well. I think everyone’s just trying to make sure that their long-term health is the most important.

“I’ve had four surgeries, it sucks, and the worst thing to do is come back too early and then need something else to get fixed. You just really don’t want to rush, and with injuries so serious, you can’t rush it. You have to give it its time to heal.”

Matt Taven: Adam Cole Will Be Back When He’s Ready

Taven continued by saying that Cole would be back when he was ready. He stated that it was important to get healthy, rather than rushing to return.

“So as the internet would like to think that they know Adam Cole’s HIPPA, it’s a HIPPA violation what they try to say about Adam Cole on the internet [laughs],” he said. “No, they try to think that they’re his doctor or something, but he’ll be back when he’s ready. That’s something I think now, at this point of our careers, is way more important to me, where back in the day, I’d be like, ‘When are you gonna be ready?’ Now, I’m like, ‘Don’t even tell me. Just get healthy.’

“The last thing we need is for you to go out and you tweak your ankle and you go out again or whatever the case may be. That’s the last thing you need, that’s the last thing anyone needs. I never ask people when they’re coming back, I just ask them how they’re doing.”
